To one or possibly both of the placenames in Denmark folklore identifies the Odin Hunt (Wild Hunt) of the Valdemar Kings of Denmark. The kings had their main game preserves on the island of Zealand to the southern islands. The proverb of the kings hunting from “Burre to Gurre” refers to the hunt from Gurre castle, northern Zealand to the southern islands. Thus the kings may well have acted out the ritual Odin hunt as an actual hunt commencing 23rd December. Artifacts, including coins, dating from King Valdemar I., King [Valdemar II. of Denmark] and King Abel were found at ”Borrenakken” in 1878.
