BORGChat is a LAN messaging software, created by Romanian student Ionut Cioflan (nicknamed IOn). It has achieved a relative state of popularity. It is considered by many as a seemingly complete LAN Chat program, though it is superseded by commercial products from bigger IT software firms, some of which allowing voice and/or videoconference for example, and central monitoring and administration. A related extension called BorgVoice manages to provide voice chat capabilities to BORGChat. It remains however in beta stage.

[edit] Trivia
The name comes from the BORG race from Star Trek: The Borg is without question one of the most fearsome and relentless forces in the Milky Way galaxy. A massive society of cybernetic automatons abducted and assimilated from thousands of species, the Borg Collective is intent on achieving "perfection" by spreading its influence into every corner of space, consuming technologies and individuals without conscience, obliterating entire civilizations in its wake. And it has a particular interest in incorporating the human race into its "Hive." IOn wished for BORGChat to "assimilate"...
