The nearest part of Switzerland to the English Channel, Boncourt is connected to the S.N.C.F. network by a single track rail, planned to reopen in 2009. During the Second World War Boncourt was a vital staging post for French speaking Switzerland, and the resistance. Boncourt is the first town on the Swiss border when travelling from Paris to Berne via Belfort.
