Bomberman is an untitled action game developed and published by Hudson Soft, for the Wii and WiiWare and is based on the Bomberman series. Both versions are set for a Fall, 2008 release in Japan, and the release date of the retail version in North America and Europe is confirmed right now to simply be TBA. It is also confirmed that the retail version will be released soon after the WiiWare version.[1]

The official website opened on March 28, but the site only in fact removed the tag that mentioned it's "opening" date. The game was originally scheduled to be released in June, however the game in mid-May was shown on the official website to have been delayed to an unspecified date in Fall, 2008.[2][3][4][5]

[edit] Information

The differences between the Wii retail and WiiWare versions, is that the retail version has a big story mode and has extra features over the WiiWare version, which is primarily the Battle Mode only.

The retail version's story mode includes 39 stages across 5 areas, as well as 31 different unique enemies and 5 bosses. The story's plot is about Bomberman saving your Miis by defeating the bosses.

Judging by the official website, the game may be controlled primarily by holding the Wii Remote on its side NES style. A screenshot of the Wi-Fi Battle Mode does confirm there is support for the GameCube controllers.

The game also features 8-player, worldwide online play with rankings. As well as both versions' battle mode being able to connect to one another, so owners of the retail version can fight against owners of the WiiWare version.

The retail version's battle mode features 2 extra stages for a total of 12 (vs. WiiWare’s 10) and 20 different “appeal motions” vs. WiiWare’s 10. These appeal motions are extra moves you can have your Bomberman do to express emotions. The point of these appeal moves for emotions wasn't explained, it could be just for entertainment purposes.

The Bomberman hub site suggests that Miis are playable, but that has yet to be officially confirmed.

The game features a mode called My first Bomberman which teaches newcomers the basics of Bomberman.

And the game also features new items, such as a rocket that enables you to fly, and a shield, items will be used by shaking the Wii Remote.

Finally, it is confirmed that both versions are developed in-house, unlike Bomberman Live which was outsourced to Backbone Entertainment.

It may be possible to purchase upgrades by using the gems you've collected, such as Hearts, Fire Ups, Bomb Ups and Speed Ups. The method of collecting gems is currently unknown.[6][7][8][9][10][11][12]

[edit] Trivia

2008 is Bomberman's 25th anniversary, as the original Bomberman game was released in Japan in 1983, thus this game may be the main game that celebrates it (as it's the only Bomberman game so far to be released first in 2008, Bomberman Land (Wii) was released in Japan first in 2007, and then elsewhere in 2008).
