Bois d'Arc, Texas

Bois d'Arc, Texas is a tiny hamlet in Anderson County, Texas at the crossroads of State Highway 19 and Farm to Market Road 860 about between Athens, Texas and Palestine, Texas. When viewed in the late 1980s there was a Southern Baptist church, a couple of small stores, and one house. There was one Osage Orange (Bois d'Arc) tree in the backyard of the house. Montalba, Texas, which had a cafe, two churches, and a post office lies a few miles to the south on Highway 19. Bradford, Texas, another wide spot in the road, lies a bit to the north on Highway 19. Termed a ghost town by www.TexasEscapes.com, Bois d'Arc had a school until it was consolidated with Montalba in 1955. Population in 2000 was 10.
