The Lysenko Family were a prominent, influential cossack family in the history of Ukraine. It dates back to the XVII century.

[edit] Yakiv Lysenko
Yakiv Lysenko, (first name can also be translated as Jacob) (Ukrainian: Яків Лисенко) lived in the first half of the XVII century. Historical documents say that he took action in the Ukrainian independence war of 1648 – 1654 under the command of Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky.

Ivan Lysenko, (Ukrainian: Іван Лисенко) the son of Yakiv Lysenko, lived in the second half of the XVII century. He was a famous political and military leader in Ukraine at the time. Ivan was the colonel of Chernihiv, later of Pereiaslav, and eventually he became the Koshovyi Otaman. In 1695 he took action in conquering the Sea of Azov and its surrounding lands with Peter I of Russia.

Fedir Lysenko, (Ukrainian: Федір Лисенко) was the son of Ivan and grandson of Yakiv Lysenko. He was the supreme judge (Ukrainian: генеральний суддя) of the Zaporizhian Cossacks from 1741.

Roman Lysenko, (Ukrainian: Роман Лисенко) was the grandson of Fedir Lysenko and father of Vitaliy Lysenko.

Vitaliy Lysenko, (Ukrainian: Віталій Лисенко) was the son of Roman Lysenko. He was the colonel of the Oredenskiy Kirasyrskyy polk (Ukrainian: Орденський кірасирський полк). His wife's name was Olga.

Mykola Lysenko, (Ukrainian: Микола Лисенко (October 3, 1842 - October 24, 1912) was a famous Ukrainian composer. He is known as the founder of Ukrainian classical music.
