Bodybuilding.com is an online retailer/manufacturer of sports supplements and nutritional products. Bodybuilding.com was founded in 1999 in Boise, Idaho by then 21-year old CEO Ryan R. DeLuca [1] In July 2006, Milestone Partners acquired a majority interest in Bodybuilding.com for an undisclosed amount. In January 2008, Liberty Media Corporation acquired a controlling stake in Bodybuilding.com. The Wall Street Journal reported the sale was for more than $100 million. [2] Bodybuilding.com is part of the Liberty Interactive unit.
Bodybuilding.com currently employs 140 workers between the Boise headquarters and warehouses in Florida and Pennsylvania. [1] In 2005, Bodybuilding.com was ranked No. 230 on Inc.'s 500, a list of the nation's fastest-growing private companies. Bodybuilding.com had over 100,000 daily and 3,100,000 monthly unique visitors in November, 2007.[3]
In addition to its namesake website which is an on line store with editorial content and forums related to the bodybuilding and fitness industry. Bodybuilding.com also operates Athletes.com, and markets its own line of sports nutrition products under the brand name Higher Power.
Bodybuilding.com also runs a bulletin board forum, that is one of the largest user forums in its category. As of 2008, it has over 1 million registered users, and over 25 million user posts.
