Boalsburg is a census-designated place (CDP) in Centre County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of the State College, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 3,578 at the 2000 census. The village claims to be the birthplace of Memorial Day. The name Boalsburg comes from the Boal family who settled the region, reputedly direct descendents of Christopher Columbus. It was originally the only stop for travelers from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh, with the Inn that housed travelers still standing today. It is also home to the Pennsylvania Military Museum, as well as the headquarters of the Civil War reenacting unit, 3rd Pennsylvania Light Artillery Battery "B" (aka F Troop). The Tussey Mountain Ski Area is also located in Boalsburg.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 3,578 people, 1,344 households, and 1,029 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 580.1 people per square mile (223.9/km²). There were 1,382 housing units at an average density of 224.1/sq mi (86.5/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 94.30% White, 1.45% African American, 0.08% Native American, 2.07% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.34% from other races, and 1.73% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.43% of the population.
There were 1,344 households out of which 39.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.9% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.4% were non-families. 18.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.66 and the average family size was 3.07.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 29.8% under the age of 18, 4.8% from 18 to 24, 29.0% from 25 to 44, 25.5% from 45 to 64, and 10.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 93.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.5 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $55,273, and the median income for a family was $60,000. Males had a median income of $46,202 versus $25,363 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $29,209. About 6.4% of families and 7.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 13.4% of those under age 18 and 2.9% of those age 65 or over.
