Re Brian Eno

Actually there are plenty of gay Roman Catholics -- haven't you been listening to the scandals of the Church?? No offense intended, if you took any, but the scandals were pretty prominent in the news, but there are millions of gay Catholics, which isn't surprising at all since there are about a billion Catholics to begin with.

I know he is both, I'll look for something you can link to on the Net.

Thanks!!

Yes, I have heard of the scandals. Still, I would find it surprising if you were the first to add that verifiable information in an article about such a prominent artist. --BNutzer 00:36, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

Re: Soft Machine

I'm a huge Soft Machine fan...and think Mike Ratledge in particular was just amazing - I also liked Karl Jenkins, unlike a lot of people. I've seen all the stuff you've done on the Softs on here...excellent work...as far as my pointing to Third specifically...it's in part because the album...unlike any other Softs record...was in print for approximately 15 years in the U.S....when nearly all the rest of their catalogue was gone in a few years. And third has been pointed to for years as "the" Soft Machine recording, although of course others like certain records more. But the sales longevity of Third is undeniable...I was an import and cut-out buyer for a major U.S. record chain in the 1970's and tracked all of this stuff...and always had an eye on Third in particular. Third also provides a good tie in to Bitches Brew, etc. Thanks again for all your great Softs work - I've run across a Hendrix/Softs pic I'd never seen before the past few weeks and want to see if I can get it on here somewhere...killer shot. Tvccs 20:09, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

  • And I see from the albums list you like Karl Jenkins as well...lol...and I'm also a huge Holdsworth fan, but think Bundles is not as strong as Six and Seven of the later stuff. Tvccs 20:18, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
well, I have never had anything against Jenkins, back when we listened to Six after it's LP release here in Germany, I didn't even notice the band had changed personnel, it was just that weirdishly fascinating jazzish Soft Machine. The focus in the Jazz fusion albums list is on fusion, and I think the Softs' Jenkins era matches that subject extremely well. I am a huge Wyatt admirer, too, and listening to Volume Two very loud is something everyone should do at least once a month ;) I never try to value between Bundles and the others, it's unique in my view, on some days I find it awful, so I only listen to it on those other days when it just rips me from my seat ... Cheers, BNutzer 20:34, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
FYI, I see you have been having to deal with User:Timmy12 on their tagging spree claiming everything is uncited, etc on Soft Machine and Holdsworth stuff. For what reasons they have an interest I have no idea, beyond the fact there's a connection to Gong, and Gilli Smyth, and pagan music therefrom, which this person seems to have some concern about. There is now a major discussion on this person, who vandalized an article I'd done, at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents, if you have anything you want to contribute. Tvccs 20:37, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the info, I hadn't even remembered their user name ... I find the debate on the incidents page a bit confusing ... anyway, I took the tagging as an insightful teaching to care for references (which actually improve articles in my view); and now that I have finally learned how to add them inside text using <ref> and </ref>, I use them more often. Where can that suspected anti-paganism be viewed? Cheers, BNutzer 23:16, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Category:Musicians work group articles needing discographies

Cool, nice work. I'll start making discography sections for these artists from other language wikipedias and from album categories, as I just did for Louis Armstrong. As the result is only a limited discography, should I leave each page in this category? --Alcuin 21:23, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

The Rippingtons

Do we have to have them under fusion??? Ack. Smooth jazz to death since they started, never a real fusion band, smooth jazz radio playlist staple. The fact they are a Weather Channel backgrounder alone should disqualify them. Cheers. Tvccs 05:34, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

I don't know them at all (and thus don't care much), but the article says: In the early to mid 90s they were more of a jazz/rock instrumental band, but since 1999 they have developed more into the Smooth Jazz genre. If that is correct, they deserve to be mentioned under fusion IMHO - even if they have changed since. In my view, "fusion" is not a clearly defined genre, is it. ... Change is so permanent ;) BNutzer 13:31, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I have nominated the article 801 (band) for deletion as I could not find any notability within what is a well written article. I would welcome your involvement in the debate to clarify the notability of the article. It's currently my view that this is not a notable covers band. MLA 07:53, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Aki Takase

At my talk page I had her on a list of Non-US jazz musician articles I was going to work on. You probably found/knew her by other means, but still thanks.--T. Anthony 01:16, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

My pleasure, and thanks to you too: after tagging hundreds (at least) of musician talk pages with the WPBiography "|musician-work-group=yes" flag (hint!) for days and seeing your user name as creator of so many of them, I noticed Aki Takase (of whom I have some music in my collection) on your talk page and thought "Yeah, let me create an article for recreational purposes, it's been quite a while ..." ;) And for me as a native German speaker, translation from :de: was easy .... Cheers and best wishes for the new year, BNutzer 16:53, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
P.S.: Of course, you are still very welcome to work on the article. Cheers, BNutzer 17:58, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Did you intend to put the WPBiography|musician-work-group template on Pollen? Unless there's some unmentioned disambiguation, I don't see how it relates.--Curtis Clark 16:24, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Yes, there is some unmentioned disambiguation: Pollen was linked to by List_of_progressive_rock_bands_and_musicians, and I used popups to go to editing the talk page directly, sorry. Last push for the Biography Assessment Drive

We've done great work so far on the WikiProject Biography Spring 2007 Assessment Drive, reducing the 135,345 backlog by 38,626 to 96,719 as of March 20, 2007. We have only 6,720 more to go to get below 90,000. That would be outstanding and any extra effort that you can offer in these last few days of the drive (which ends March 24, 2007) would be much appreciated. If you haven't already, you may want to load Outriggr's assessment script in your monobook.js. If you have any questions, please feel free to post them on my talk page. -- Jreferee 23:13, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Big Joe Turner

I have no idea how, or when, articles are picked up for biographical assessments. Big Joe's article, to which I readily admit some considerable input, has not had an assessment to date. Can his be put on 'the list' ? Thank you,

Derek R Bullamore 20:46, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Done (as you may have noticed). To add an article to the biography project for (future) assessment, add {{WPBiography}} at the top of the article's talk page. For musicians and musical groups, better use {{WPBiography|musician-work-group=yes}}. For more details, see {{WPBiography}}. Cheers, BNutzer 23:04, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Sweet Smoke

I noticed an error on the listing for the Sweet Smoke Live CD. It was not a two track LP. It had three. In addition, a new release of the CD came out in 2000 that featured most of the original live concert and had an additional three tracks. A good source for accurate info on Sweet Smoke is Brian Currin's fansite: http://www.rock.co.za/files/sweetsmoke.html

Here's the Capitol/EMI Music page on the CD: http://www.capitolmusic.de/xml/1/550630/5226832.html

I would make changes on the Sweet Smoke entries, but in compliance to Wiki rules I can not. Listed on the Wiki Sweet Smoke entry as Rick Greenberg, I was a member of Sweet Smoke. I have since changed my name, see: http://www.pelorian.com/Rasa.html

I would be happy to answer questions about Sweet Smoke, if you need info to correct and/or add to the Sweet Smoke entries. mailto:rasa@pelorian.com

Rasa, aka Rasadeva 23:33, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi Rasa, pleased to read from you. I have adjusted the track listing somewhat, but I have a question there: my impression is that the tracks on the LP B side were listed "as one" with a slash like "Shadout Mapes/Ocean Of Fears" and a play time (18:02) that enclosed both of them, correct? If that is correct, I think that the article intro (and the new track listing format) covers that adequately in "The last track is actually two songs that the band fused together". Cheers, BNutzer 15:35, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm sitting here with the original LP in front of me and I think I see what happened. The LP had First Jam on Side 1, and the other two cuts on Side 2. However, EMI edited the two Side 2 pieces together. At 11:30 into "Shadout Mapes/Ocean of Fears," during the applause for Shadout Mapes, EMI spliced in Ocean of Fears, actually cutting out a tiny bit of the piece in the process (probably for time constraints). They wanted to make the listener think that this was a continuous recording of the live event without edits. When the first CD of Live came out, it had the same configuration as the LP. When the six track re-issue came out in 2000, EMI remastered the entire concert, doing the same kind of editing between tracks, but this time, in part because of digital technology, they made six separate tracks with no pauses between and all listed with their times. So I guess you could say that Side 2 is "two tracks that the EMI studio engineers fused together. The tracks were later listed separately when three additional tracks were added to the 2000 CD re-release." Sorry for the lengthy explanation! Rasadeva 21:13, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation. I have updated the article. BNutzer 21:44, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

BTW, it might be cool to add a link to the definitive Krautrock directory, Crack in the Cosmic Egg, where Sweet Smoke is in a long list of bands in Germany at that time: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/ultimathule/krautrockers.html They are in the process of updating their catalog, so the Sweet Smoke entry is under revision. Rasadeva 21:30, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

I think I'll add that link to the Sweet Smoke article ... I hope and wish they split that 682,853 bytes HTML file somewhat in the process ... Cheers, BNutzer 21:44, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

TriPod

Thanks for the editing of TriPod!!

I have added a few edits, hope I did it correctly :)

You have a lot of experience with Wiki, I see. (and are multilingual! a great asset these days)

I was wondering if you could help me with an editing question. I created a page for my cousin, Bud Molin, but unfortunately, I typed in a small M during my search. Then when it allowed me to create the page, the title became "Bud molin".

Do you know how to fix that? The title does not seem editable...

PS - Music is in my family. My father was Buddy Feyne, from the Big Band era :)

Thanks,
Stephanie Feyne 13:26, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Page moved to Bud Molin

I have moved Bud molin to Bud Molin using the "move" tag at the top of the page. That is fairly easy if the desired new title is not in use yet. Glad I could be of help. Cheers, BNutzer 13:45, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Your opinion would be greatly appreciated

Hello there, I am a fellow member of Wikiproject jazz. I was wondering, if you had a moment to spare, if you would be willing to give your opinion on a matter at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2007 June 15 concerning a category I created. The category is [[Category:Jazz musicians of New Orleans]], and it has been proposed that the article be merged with Musicians of New Orleans and American jazz musicians. This is precisely why I created the category, because it seemed to me the birthplace of jazz music and continous modern symbol of jazz certainly deserves a category unto itself. Regardless of your opinion, I would greatly appreciate your input there so as to have a discussion over the matter. Thanks. (Mind meal 03:22, 15 June 2007 (UTC))

New categories for jazz musicians

Hello fellow member of Wikipedia:WikiProject Jazz! I am delivering this message to all members of the project to inform them of a major addition to the evolution of this project. Please see Category:Jazz musicians by genre to familiarize yourselves with the new categories for jazz musicians. Most of the genre categories contain sub-genres in their drop-down menus, so be sure to open them up! I am sending this to everyone to speed up the population of these categories. The sub-genres have been carefully researched to ensure they belong under their corresponding "mother genre"! And please, when in doubt do not categorize something via an assumption. Well, that about covers it! Any help in this regard will be greatly appreciated.(Mind meal 05:24, 25 June 2007 (UTC))

Request for rating

Right on. To me it just makes for easy browsing. This should have been done from day one. (Mind meal 16:25, 13 July 2007 (UTC))
I wanted to let you know that strides are now being made with a process similar to that which you supported. You can lend your support or opposition at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Albums#Technical_fix.3F. This is a pretty good compromise. (Mind meal 15:53, 18 July 2007 (UTC))

How to fix it

To keep your monobook.js out of Category:Unassessed biography articles replace:

assessmentMyTemplateCode = ["{{WPBiography|living=|class=|needs-infobox=|listas=|needs-photo=}}"];

with:

assessmentMyTemplateCode = ["{"+"{WPBiography|living=|class=|needs-infobox=|listas=|needs-photo=}}"];

Hope this helped; for any questions drop a note on my talk page. Psychless 16:49, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

The Make-Up assessment

Thanks for assessing The Make-Up article, I've been waiting for weeks to get it properly assessed. But I was wondering if you might be able to elaborate a bit, specifically on how I could further improve the article. I hope to get it assessed at GA eventually, so any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Drewcifer3000 20:37, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

You are welcome! I think you should rather ask for suggestions for improving the article on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Musicians. Regards, BNutzer 20:52, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Ok thanks, I will do that. But, to rephrase my question slightly, what was it about the article that prompted you "B" assessment? I mean, I'm assuming you didn't just guess, so there must have been some indication to you. I don't mean to press the issue, I'd just very much like to improve the article and I was (perhaps foolishly) hoping to have it assessed higher. Anyways, thanks for your time. Drewcifer3000 23:15, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
My "B" rating is based on my "definitely better than Start class" impression of the article. To nominate the article for GA status, see Wikipedia:Good_articles/Nominations, to request an A-class review, see Wikipedia:WikiProject_Biography/A-class_review. BNutzer 06:35, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
Ok, that makes perfect sense. Thank you so much! I'll nominate the article for GA status soon. Thanks alot. Drewcifer3000 09:45, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

WPBiography template question

Hi. I see a "WPBiography|musician-work-group=yes|..." template was added to the Talk:Toshiko Akiyoshi – Lew Tabackin Big Band page. I am not familiar with this category / template but is it meant to be used for group / orchestra articles as well as for individual musicians? The article in question is about the big band founded by the musicians Toshiko Akiyoshi and Lew Tabackin. Each of the two principal musicians also has their own separate wikipedia articles so I didn't think the band's article also would be categorized as a "musician biography". Or perhaps I am misunderstanding the intention / scope of this category? Many thanks for any info / clarification. Pugetbill 00:39, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject Musicians, an attempt to build a comprehensive and detailed biographical guide to musicians and musical groups on Wikipedia (to quote the template) is part of WPBiography, so: Yes, the template is also for articles about musical groups. Regards, BNutzer 06:50, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Severe Tire Damage rating

You have modified the Severe Tire Damage talk page to classify it in the "start" category. Can you tell me why this was done and what improvements you wish to see? Thanks. Strubin 18:28, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

This was done as a part of WikiProject Musicians, an attempt to build a comprehensive and detailed biographical guide to musicians and musical groups on Wikipedia, which is trying to classify articles according to the project's quality scale. Please see the quality scale and the WikiProject Council Assessment FAQ for more information. This is not a question of which improvements I wish to see, but what comes to my mind as a possible improvement is an External links section. Regards, BNutzer 19:05, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Andy Billups

Many thanks for taking the time to rate Andy's page, it's much appreciated. I'm not sure it should be rated as low as a start class though I would have guessed at a B, but as the article's creator I'm obviously biased. Already (on the band's forum) a long-time fan and acquaintance of Billups has stated after seeing the article that he didn't know 90% of what was in it. This leads me to the point of this message. How on earth do I get/earn a higher rating for this article. I've pretty much drained Billups of info over the phone and by email. I'm not sure what additional info I can get, or perhaps more pertinently, look for. Any suggestions would be a great help. Thanks. ---- WebHamster 19:39, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

The article does not list any references/sources nor external links. References are almost a must on Wikipedia, especially in biographical articles about living persons, see e.g. Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Reliable sources and Wikipedia:Verifiability#Sources - so adding references would certainly be a good start. Beyond that, maybe ask on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Musicians that people post suggestions for improving the article on Talk:Andy Billups, where you should perhaps first start a section like ==Improving this article==, in which you ask for such suggestions, too. Hope this helps, BNutzer 20:09, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Earthstar

Thank you for rating the Earthstar page. Since then I've significantly expanded the article thanks to a copy of Dennis Rea's book Live At The Forbidden City, which means the article now has a print reference rather than just web sites. I've also been able to confirm some of the things I've found on the web with Dennis Rea so I felt more comfortable adding them. Earthstar is highly regarded and Klaus Schulze's involvement guaranteed them a significant following and record sales. Some of the musicians (especially Dennis Rea) have gone on to bigger and better things (yes, an article is coming). The fact is that they only existed for six years and only four (out of a possible six) albums were ever released. There really isn't any more information that is verifiable and a longer article just isn't justified. I think the article may now be up to at least Class B and I would appreciate if you could look at it again and see if you agree. I also would like your suggestions on any improvements you think are still needed.

Oh, thanks also for your work on the Conny Plank article. I feel there are still some unverified bits there but I'm not qualified to do more than I have. Caitlynmaire 03:42, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Typo redirect Jessica greene

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Jessica greene, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Jessica greene is a redirect page resulting from an implausible typo (CSD R3).

If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. The Adverts (part of the WP Biography remit

Twelve months ago, the article of English band The Adverts was rated by you as 'Start' class. A year on, a substantial amount of editing has taken place. Nevertheless, you again rated it as a 'start' article. Surely some mistake? Yozzer66 16:33, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Nope. It was not assessed as 'Start' by me before, but by someone else, see: [1]. Before that, it was assessed as stub, again by someone else, see: [2]. And I still consider it start class. You can remove the class value to hopefully have it re-assessed by someone else. BNutzer 17:00, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Gong Gazeuse!-album-cover.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Gong Gazeuse!-album-cover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 20:44, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
