I saw the BMW headquarters when I visited BoundCon in Munich. Quite an impressive sight. But if the cylinders don't rest on the ground, but are suspended from their central columns, doesn't that place an enormous stress on them? What was the reason to build them like than in the first place? Artistic creativity? — JIP | Talk 18:17, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I wouldn't know for sure myself, although it's a likely explanation :-) The German site

referred to from the bottom of the article does a good job of explaning the

choice of the four-cylinder shape. It does not say however, why the cylinders have to

hang off of a central support tower.

It does mention however, that they were able to prefab all floor on the ground, which

was a welcome shortcut considering that they were with their backs against a somewhat

artificial deadline imposed by the 1972 Summer Olympics...

There is a photo[1] of the construction site as well - quite impressive.

What does this paragraph mean? "During the 1972 Summer Olympics BMW branding was removed from the buildings to prevent undesirable product placement. Interestingly, this also applied to the 2002 sedans, which accompanied Olympic marathoners during the competition." What is "undesirable product placement"?

Somewhat lame translation from the German article -- it simply means that they took down the BMW signs from the building. Also, the cars they have sponsored the Olympics with didn't have any BMW badges on them. Jbetak 08:03, 6 October 2005 (UTC)
