Talk:BMO Field

- Is the stadium expansion and upgrade friendly, provided that the economics work in the future?
Who else is looking forward to the completion of this stadium? J3wishVulcan 04:40, 10 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Why don't the stands have a roof? CalJW 06:10, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
This stadium seems low budget to me. Sure it costs $62 million and seats 20 000, but my dream is that Canada could host an actual world cup (2018). But those require 60 000 person stadiums and much better designs. This is deffently a great start, but I just wish Soccer was taken more seriously here. I will still like to watch some games in this stadium tho. 007craft 08:12, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
Sorry dude, don't get your hopes up. Canada will never ever ever host a world cup. We will never get the support for it to build the 10 or so 60,000 seat stadiums that FIFA requires. So there's no reason to build stadia that big. Also, with regards to the 20,000 seats at BMO -- that's a reasonable number considering it's just beginning (it can easily be expanded later if interest warrants. 20,000 is not that far away from the average attendance in some European leagues. The AVG attendance in the English Premiership is about 33,000. AVG attendance in the Italian Serie A is about 20,000. AVG Attendance in the Spanish Premier league is about 24,000. So for a stadium in a city that is just developing it's local team, 20,000 is just about right.
it wud be great to have a 60,000 seat stadium except for the fact that theyll be probly about 15,000 fans at each TFC home game for now... this is a good start Soccer fan 20:36, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
It's not soccer; it's football!!! Smokie81
The stadium needs to be completed for the start of the FIFA Youth WC next summer, let's not forget this. I hear people critizing the stadium and it's simpleness, but the fact of matter is that we have a limited time frame to work with. I'm sure that if MLSE (owners of Toronto FC) had a larger amount of time to work with they'd have a better design for the stadium, maybe of a higher capacity as well. We also do not need a thirty-thousand plus seater. MLS wants teams to build their own SSS's, with reasonable capacities to give them a better atmosphere and to avoid the half-full, half-empty feeling that comes with gigantic college football stadiums. --Jay-wolf 06:23, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
I'm English, but am moving to Toronto this year an as such have been following the TFC story with some interest. BMO field is certainly very different from most of the stadiums we have here in that it has a shallow rake to the stands and no roof. I have a feeling that this may have a bit of a negative effect on the atmosphere, although that is of course down to the attitude of the fans themselves. It's worth looking at 2 new stadiums opened this year by English league 1 (2 levels below premiership) teams. One is Doncaster Rovers Keepmoat ground (15,000 @ £32m) and the other is Swansea City's New Liberty Stadium http://www.liberty-stadium.com/ (20,000 @ £27m).
One other thing. Does anyone know if BMO field is complete yet. Not long to go now!
- You're likely to find that a stadium that seats 20 000 having 10 or 12 guys in the stands kills the atmosphere more. ;) In all seriousness, it's planned to open in the spring, AFAICT. WilyD 16:30, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Where?
I'm not very familiar with Toronto, but I can't find this thing on MapQuest or Google Maps? Where the #eLL is it?!?! Kevlar67 16:56, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
- The new stadium is located at Exhibition Place in Toronto. It will be located on Princes' Blvd. and Ontario Drive. Flibirigit 17:05, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
it's too new to be seen on google maps yet. they haven't updated their satellite maps in a while.
[edit] Pitch Dimensions
Anyone know the dimensions of the pitch? I can't seem to find them anywhere. Or are they just 'standard' football pitch dimensions? Iansmcl 14:29, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
Field of play dimensions are 75 yards wide x 115 yards long. A Canadian football field (65 x 110 yards) could conceivably fit into the stadium as the end zone seats are also far enough back to allow for this field plus 15 yard end zones if wanted - as was once the case with the Memphis Mad Dogs of the Canadian Football League.[1]Likemike1
i removed info about the field size in terms of the CFL. I don't see any reason for speculative information about the potential fit of a CFL field within an article about a soccer field.
[edit] Irony?
Anyone else think its a little ironic that the TorontoFC's field is named after the bank of montreal, considering the rivalry between those two cities ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.48.115.79 (talk) 21:39, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
- I also noticed that early on. Please view the article Toronto-Montreal rivalry for more information about it. The Bank of Nova Scotia, better known as Scotiabank, has its head office in Toronto, despite its Nova Scotia name (it is founded in that province). In other words, this irony should be noted in the article. Johnny Au (talk) 16:56, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Are we sure Lombardo scored the first Canadian goal? I remember him putting one in the net but it was called back in the game against Aston Villa as he was offside. I don't remember him scoring another. His wikipedia entry has no mention of it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kooper Ca (talk • contribs) 04:40, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Where's the irony? Bank of Montreal has been headquartered in Montreal for years. They are simply celebrating that they own Montreal - clearly demonstrated by the Impact's poor performance against TFC. :) Nfitz (talk) 04:06, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] BMO Field Expansion
Anyone heard anything about possibly expanding BMO field to include more seating? The stadium has been packed for every game and season tickets sold out so quickly, so I was wondering if TFC was considering expanding the stadium. --Crosscountrycpjon 20:57, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
- We likely won't see a seating expansion or any similarconstruction work until the club can prove the interest for pro soccer in Toronto can justify such costs. At the moment, a few field level bar tables and stools have been placed in front of the East Stands, but those are a temporary addition. If there is a major expansion of seats, it will likely be in the North End stands where the Carlsberg Beer Garden is located. 99.242.233.33 08:17, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
the part currently in the piece regarding the schedule for expansion of the stadium is unsourced. Please add citations or remove the information. Toronto FC's Paul Beirne has only publicly said that no expansion is imminent and that only in perhaps 10 years will they consider this (See Red Patch Live! video on Google videos). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.12.14.130 (talk) 02:42, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] removing gallery
why did someone remove the gallery of pictures? the user then justified the move of the gallery by saying he/she included the "best" pictures within the article... one of the so called best pictures was of the scoreboard..... huh? If you're going to remove most of the pictures and then keep only a few, why would you keep 1 of the scoreboard? there are far better pictures of the STADIUM than one of the scoreboard all by itself.
- Generally, galleries should be hosted on commons.wikimedia.org and linked with a little
Wikimedia Commons has media related to:
how is someone supposed to find such galleries when they come to the BMO Field page? and who's decision is it to choose which are the "best" pictures for this BMO Field page?
- All the images go in the gallery, which is linked with a little box like that on the right ->
can the box be placed in a more noticeable position? it's unclear to new users where the photos are. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.12.6.250 (talk) 15:14, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- External links is the usual place for it, but I don't care much. It's just {{commons}} if you want to play with its position. WilyD 15:18, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
