[edit] Comments (Recently Updated on March 22, 2007)
This article seems to be doing okay, I am just waiting for the preliminary report to come out on this accident. It should be issued here very soon if it hasn't been already.
Here are a few changes that have been done to the article recently.
- NTSB Preliminary Report
- This will give some details, not full details, on what happened in the accident. It will give a 'preliminary' reason for the accident. A full report will be issued after the perliminary report is issued. I am waiting for the preliminary report to post the information. If anyone else has the report, you may post that in the article. It would be a great help.
- Reaction, Picketing
- Picketing under reaction has been removed. It was posted on their for about a week after the church group who planned to picket at the memorial service. It was taken off two weeks later. I feel there is no need for this information to be included in the article because the picketing aparently did not occur. I know some other users were also concerned about this. I plan to keep the rest of the subtitles under reaction unless anyone feels it should be changed.
- Fatalities
- I know a user on this talk page was concered about the fatlaities section. The article stated the following people died in the result of the accident not actually in the accident. I did change this, but I will be changing this back to how it was with the entire list together if there is no protest. If you have any comments or would like to change anything, please do as needed. The age on Cody Holp (18, not 19) was retrieved from the Bluffton University article. I apologize for any inconvience.
- Organization
- I am trying to keep this article as organized as possible. Please tell me if something does not look right in the article and I would be more than happy to change it. I also added this article to WikiProject:Ohio. It has been part of WikiProject:Georgia for quite some time now. Thank you users Mjrmtg and toll_booth for helping me organize the article as well as finding some pictures to add to the article. jordanrschroeder 21:15, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Other Ideas
Please tell me what you think about the article here. Please use the same format below. jordanrschroeder 20:14, 23 March 2007
- Yeah, I like where the article is going. It's taking shape now. :) One gripe I have though: Everyone, don't forget to CITE YOUR SOURCES! There are loads of information that have no source. Let's correct this and keep this in mind on future revisions. Other than that, though, keep on contributing--there's a lot of interest to this story.

[edit] Organizing the article
OK it looks like we have a good start here; now we need to get this article organized. My thoughts were to collect the various details into four main sections:
- 1. Details
- 2. Reactions
- 3. Injuries
- 4. Cause and Investigation
My thoughts here are to save anything that's not related to the brute facts until the very end--i.e., tell what happened, and then tell what they think caused it. toll_booth 20:37, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think the Funerals should be listed under Reactions. They should have their own section ... or I dunno --Mjrmtg 23:24, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

- I cleaned the article up some. I think I've found a very good model article that we could use here--the one on the Oklahoma City bombing; note that it is currently rated GA-Class, which only a handful of articles ever reach. It'd be awesome if we could get this one to become that good!
- And by all means, if any of you find a current-events article that's even better, by all means share it with us. toll_booth 22:09, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Should this article exist?
It has come to my attention that there are some who want to remove this article entirely. If so, please state why, as many of us feel that this is a noteable current event in need of mention. Note that wikipedia's policy on notability reads:
- "A topic is notable if it has been the subject of at least one substantial or multiple, non-trivial published works from sources that are reliable and independent of the subject and of each other."
which this topic clearly qualifies as. That said, there may be something I am missing here. So for the time being, I am placing the hangon tag on the article. toll_booth 20:47, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
Pul-leeze. We couldn't even get non-notable college football player deaths deleted. This certainly must be notable if the death of a single college football player of heat stroke is notable.→ R Young {yakłtalk} 12:18, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Please Refrain From Calling Zach Arend 'Killed in the Crash'
Zach Arend died a week later in the hospital. He died 'as a result of injuries sustained in the crash,' not 'killed in the crash.' In fact it seems only one fatality was immediately confirmed 'in' the crash (though there may have been more, that was the earliest report). One died in the ambulance, and another died shortly after arriving at the hospital (David Betts), at least according to media reports.
Let's also try to get the ages right. Cody Holp was 19, not 18.

[edit] Picketing
I found no news articles that said there was picketing, can we remove this or verify? --Mjrmtg 17:28, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Photo of the Exit Itself
I've found the PERFECT photo of the actual exit, which visually documents the HOV exit signs and the ramp. The catch is, this photo is copyrighted by the AJC, and I'm not sure how to navigate wikipedia's copyright rules. Can someone please do that?

- This picture looks great to put in the article itself. I will try to get this picture copyrighted and added to the article. Thank you very much. What do you think about the organization of the article? User, 23:42 13 March 2007 (UTC)
- That picture tell the story, the sign says "Buses/Carpools Only". An unfamiliar driver could think that means that buses should take this lane :( --Mjrmtg 01:11, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
- It is too bad. I do know for a fact that Jerry Neimeyer has been down in Atlanta before, but I don't think he knew which road he was actually was supposed to be on. As I watched Special Investigations Unit on CNN the other night, it seems as if he didn't slow down until he realized he was going to be in an accident. PRAY FOR THE FAMILIES OF ALL THE VICTIMS. [edit] Good Illustrations
I found two good illustrations that could be used in this article. They can be found on an article by the Atlanta Journal Constitution Newspaper here article. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mjrmtg (talk • contribs) 20:07, 20 March 2007 (UTC).
- Love the first pic! Can you get the copyright info on it?
- Second pic has potential as well. toll_booth 17:03, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
- They both say source as GDOT. I don't know how to get the copyright info. --Mjrmtg 20:44, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
- I will try to get the copyright information and post the photos in the article. Thank you. Jordanrschroeder 00:10, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Article's title
While "2007 Atlanta I-75 Charter Bus Accident" may be a good working title, I think we need to shrink it down to something more concise. Let's figure out what to call it. I'll list a couple nominees; feel free to add to this list. Once we find one that works, we'll go with it.
Ultimately I think the decision comes down to whether we name it after the city (Atlanta) or the college (Bluffton University).
- Bluffton University Bus Wreck
- Northside Drive Bus Wreck
- Atlanta Bus Wreck

[edit] New Title
I moved 2007 Atlanta I-75 Charter Bus Accident to Bluffton University Bus Accident. Jordanrschroeder 17:15, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
- Awesome. Now it's easier to find. toll_booth 19:30, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] New Newspaper Article
There is a new article on the Atlanta Journal Constitution's website entitled "State omitted a sign at site of fatal bus crash" --Mjrmtg 02:36, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
A new article was posted today "Bluffton bus crash prompts new signs, safety efforts" --Mjrmtg (talk) 11:16, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
