[edit] Dark Forces

On the discussion page for the Star Wars computer game Dark Forces, it states that Blue Harvest incorporates music from the game into the episode. Can anyone confirm this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.18.158.139 (talk) 06:17, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Violations

I removed the link cause it is a violation of copyright, Twenty Century Fox has demanded all sites showing this video.--Mariocossio 18:48, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

To all the users who are editing this page, a bit ago, i asked an admin to delete the pictures taken from the video posted on youtube of this episode, don't put new ones until Fox releases them or the episode aires, because the video from which this pictures are taken is illegal and thus all derivatives from it are also...I understand that you want to ilustrate this episode (i believe it will be one of the bests of the show) but in wikipedia we follow the rules and the copyright laws. Thanks.--Mariocossio 22:31, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
  • Actually, Fox's wishes have nothing to do with the legality of the pictures. The only way wikipedia can use them is under fair use, and you most certainly don't need permission from the rights holder to make a fair use defense. If it would be legal to post without permission from Fox after it has aired, it's legal now. This is not legal advice, consult your own attorney before doing anything, etc, etc.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.19.251.172 (talk • contribs)

We could certainly summarize the scenes in the video ... other FG articles already have made reference to it. Daniel Case 02:14, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

A link to a .torrent file would be suitable, since it does not link directly to the file. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ran4 (talkcontribs) 20:05, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] List to prose tag

The cultural references section needs to flow in nice and smooth paragraphs, not choppy PowerPoint tidbits. I can make these changes but prefer to hold off another day so as to not get into edit conflicts with others. Cromulent Kwyjibo 23:25, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

I might give it a shot tonight. It would be lovely if we could make this article an example of how to do this sort of thing as a prose section. Daniel Case 02:06, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Errors

Pointing out the unrealistic operation of R2-D2's handgun doesn't seem worthwhile in an episode where Han Solo rides through space on the outside of the Millennium Falcon with the door open. Hackaday 07:56, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

That's a perfect example of the sort of "indiscriminate information" that will go by the boards once we prosify the lists. Daniel Case 16:51, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Notes

The "Notes" section is a thinly veiled trivia list. Any relevant information should probably be redistributed throughout the rest of the article. Aml830 13:40, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

This will be taken care of by prosification. As new additions to the article start to slow, the time is becoming ripe. Daniel Case 14:35, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The Simpsons Refrence?

When Chris says "Ah Crap, Now we gotta do this with Danny Elfman!" And The music starts playing, It is the Simpsons Action Music. Should this be mentioned in Trivia? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.8.167.55 (talk) 01:28, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

No, unless we have a good source saying this. Daniel Case 14:59, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
Subtitles on dvd FM (talk) 12:14, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Air America (film) refrence?

The scene with a rebel trooper pretending to shoot down the Falcon appears to be a reference to a scene with a Laotian solder pretending to shoot down an Air America airplane in the film. Can anyone confirm this? Generalleoff 07:25, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Someone put in that it has something to do with a character from Kids in the Hall. In any event, unless some reliable source explains that this was the intent, it shouldn't be in the article at all. Too trivial. Daniel Case 15:01, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Other Broadcasters thumbs up?

Just to thow this idea out into the ball park, do you think the Doctor Who rift and the Robot Chicken thing was refrences to other Broadcasters of Family Guy (CN/[adult swim] in the US and BBC in the UK)? Conan-san 13:21, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Unless someone reliable says this, it's speculation more fit for a fan site than Wikipedia. Daniel Case 15:01, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
fair enough, like I said, ball park idea thow.--Conan-san 13:53, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "I just want to tell you both, Good luck, we're all counting on you".

Who was the man who crawled in Han's cockpit and told him that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Knuclear200x (talkcontribs) 01:39, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Leslie Nielsen, as the article explains. Daniel Case 15:02, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] bender

where was bender in this? i remember seeing roger from american dad but not bender. J1j2j3 05:17, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

He is in the background right as they enter the bar and are walking from right to left. A little past him Evil Monkey is also in the background. Evil Monkey should proly be added to the list.Generalleoff 10:32, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wilhelm scream?

Was it just me, or was there a Wilhelm scream in the middle of the death star scene? 71.143.234.218 06:37, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

I heard it too, when an X-wing blows up a tower on the Death Star and inside a stormtrooper flies out of a room. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.21.188.53 (talk) 19:58, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dot Matrix?

Can anyone confirm if the "old 90's printer" reference is to Dot Matrix, the android servent of princess Vespa from Space Balls? Conor Whiteley 23:41, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

This would need a comment from the writers or producers, so probably no. Also, this is way trivial; one even gets the joke without knowing this refers to Space Balls. I suggest simply removing it as unencyclopedic. / edg 00:09, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
While it is a bit subtle, its a good thing to make a note of, especially since Spaceballs has so much influence on this episode. --Otheus (talk) 02:59, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] name

[edit] Worth noting

I don't see anywhere on the article that states that "Blue Harvest" was the production codename for Return of the Jedi- is it worth adding? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.101.109.85 (talk) 04:33, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

I think it would be. I wondered about that myself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.167.136.139 (talk) 03:01, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
The information is on the Blue Harvest page, which is directly linked from the article. That seems like enough to me.Nahka (talk) 16:06, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Only one hour episode?

Is this episode the only hour-long (with commercials) episode in Family Guy history, or is there another hour long episode? The Chronic 04:59, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

its the only one in existence so far. although if there are more star wars episodes down the line those could potentially be hour longs as well. Also, there were a couple of previous two part episodes, but in each of those prior cases they were both two individual episodes, unlike this which was just one long one. Grande13
They're definitely making more; or at least they're definitely planning to make more. Immblueversion (talk) 03:37, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
The DVD version is only 45 minutes...? Leushenko (talk) 00:37, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hayley from American Dad?

In the cultural references section, it said that Hayley also briefly appeared in the episode. Is that true? and if it is, where is she? (I recorded the episode, so I can find it) The Chronic 23:42, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

No, never mind. I found her (in the cantina also). The Chronic 03:22, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
I know what you are talking about, but don't believe that it is or was intended to be Hayley...besides a somewhat hairstyle, which was pretty generic in the first place anyways. Grande13 04:40, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Agreed. DOesn't look much like her. Will (talk) 15:38, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
It's not Hayley. It's a background character who appeared in the original movie named Karoly D'ulin; I'm sure of it. Besides, Hayley's eyes are rounder and she doesn't have that much of a chin. Check out this link. Immblueversion (talk) 03:38, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Bullet Points

Okay, I'm getting tired of this &%@&. Keep the bullet points for the cultural reference and note sections and, yes, the trivia sections. It just doesn't make sence to me that we have to make a paragraph out of the references. I just don't get it. They usally don't have anything to do with each other, so why try to make a paragraph out of them? I know, I know, "this is an encyclopedia," but why use those types of guidelines for a comedy TV show. Chances are, people who read these articals arn't looking for an encyclopedia-like article; they're looking for an up-to-date, acurate, clean, and easy to read articles about a show with a talking dog and a baby who can bloody TALK!!! These articals are about a show that has a talking dog &%$@%&$ human women and a gay talking baby that is trying to rule the world and kill his mom! I get that some of the guidelines are important, but there is a notice that the plot for this epidode is to long. What the &@%&! What is going on here! --BrianGriffin-FG (talk) 21:24, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry. I guess I channeled Lewis Black for a minute, but I stand by everything I said. --BrianGriffin-FG (talk) 21:26, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

If people aren't looking 'an encyclopedia-like article', they're very much in the wrong place. DanTheShrew (talk) 08:20, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Adding All Cut Materials to "Edits" Section

We should dedicate a section that describes all the extra and edited scenes that appear only on the DVD. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Immblueversion (talkcontribs) 21:09, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Change "Edits" to "Censorship"

In reference to an earlier contribution I have made, I feel we should make a list of all the material that was cut for time and profanity under the "Edits" section and change the name to "Censorship."

Also, I apologize for not using my signature. I am just not used to any of these things, and I don't know how to contact others for help. Can someone help me? Immblueversion (Talk) 22:44, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Never mind, I've got it. But I do need help on how to respond to any messages that are sent to me. Immblueversion (Talk) 22:46, 15 January 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Immblueversion (talkcontribs)
Censorship is a bit strong. The episode had to fit into a proscribed time format. FCC regulations, thanks to the Super Bowl "wardrobe failure", will heavily fine tv networks for inappropriate whatever. So if it is censorship, it's self-censorship based on the court-recognized 'obscenity' exception to the First Amendment. I would note that the Bush/Cheney bumper sticker didn't get excised. --Otheus (talk) 02:57, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] The thing about Youtube

I've noticed that it says that the full episode was posted on Youtube, only to be taken down due to copyright claims from FOX. However, this happens all the time, so is it really relevant to keep this information? Immblueversion (talk)22:44, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] iTunes-compatible digital file

You can legally rip the DVD to your computer and iPod using iTunes. I find it odd that there is no mention of it already in the article and ask about it before I add it myself. Today Jim Gianopulos, Chairman & CEO of Fox, came out on stage during the MacWorld 2008 Steve Jobs Keynote and talks about it. Here is a link to the video of the keynote, http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/f27853y2/event/index.html?internal=fj2l3s9dm . Also here is a news article that talks about it, dated January 8, 2008, http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/news/comments/fox-dvd-ships-with-itunes-compatible-digital-file/12358 - DidYouLoseASock (talk) 00:31, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Newest source, "The first DVD to make its debut with iTunes Digital Copy" http://gizmodo.com/345087/itunesipod+ready-digital-copies-on-fox-dvds-official-free - DidYouLoseASock (talk) 00:58, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
See "RIAA v. Diamond Multimedia" The consumer has an explicit legal right to make private non-commercial copies. So, I can legally rip the DVD to my computer and anywhere else I please anyway. This "feature" restricts the quality and limits where it can be played, and hence is more DRM than feature Damncrackmonkey (talk) 22:22, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

It should be worth noting that you can also do the exact same thing with any Windows PlaysForSure device/system, or even just on to your personal computer. A window pops up on your computer when you insert the disc (at least under Windows it does) and presents you with the option of either (WMP or iTunes). Also, I find the reference to the trouble with the iTunes Digital Copy to be rather superfluous and more suited to an article specifically about "iTunes Digital Copy." josejuan05 http://www.ehomeupgrade.com/entry/4644/fox-s_family_guy

[edit] Episode Runtime

I was just wondering how long does the episode go for? Is it just a normal half hour? --MattyC3350 (talk) 07:02, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

No, it's a full hour with commercials. Immblueversion (talk) 12:41, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Aha, not an hour after all! We need an exact length in minutes - runtime doesn't include advertising. Leushenko (talk) 00:38, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Of course commercials don't count. Likewise when we are speaking of movie lengths we don't count the trailers that start before the movie. TheBlazikenMaster (talk) 01:05, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] The "1-15-08 Update"

There was some kind of "update" under the list of references saying there was no preview for "Something, Something, Something Dark Side" included on the DVD. That doesn't seem possible, because I saw a preview on Youtube, and it seemed too efficient to be fake. Maybe someone expected an actual preview, but the DVD description called this feature a "teaser" rather than an actual "preview." Maybe I'm mistaken, but someone should look into it (I don't have the DVD as of this time). Immblueversion (talk) 12:40, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

there is a preview but is an easter egg on the special features you go to the family guy on dvd and press the left button and then enter you should see it 98.198.155.249 (talk) 03:25, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

I just got the DVD and I found it myself, so thanks. Immblueversion (talk) 03:34, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] "Help Me Obi-Wan Kenobi, Your my only hope"

I need help with using on the location of where this took place, i placed this under the star wars references when lois is trying to make an mpeg, someone please describe it more for me, i have forgotten alot of the terms from star wars. Thanks =]

[edit] Adding more members to the cast list

In this episode there is a Stormtrooper who, after hearing a noise Obi-Wan presumably made and thinking it's probably just another drill, talks about how he once was about to finally "bone [his] girlfriend" (don't balme me for the offensive term; this is what he actually said), then hearing that there was this drill and saying his girlfriend told him that "there was no way." This character sounds exactly like the interviewee in the episode "Boys Do Cry" who claimed to have seen Bigfoot. I'm not sure about this, but I found some websites that claim his name is "RJ." Do you suppose we should put him under "minor characters" on the cast list? Also, should we add Al Harrington, the guy from that annoying commercial, to the list as "Darth Harrington?" And should we also put the Evil Monkey, who appeared in the background of the cantina scene, up as himself as well? Immblueversion (talk) 21:46, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Nod to Mel Brooks movie "Blazing Saddles"?

When Chris's Luke Skywalker character mentions John Williams, and the camera cuts right to the orchestra there on the set, it reminded me very much of the scene in Mel Brooks' comedy movie "Blazing Saddles" in which Cleavon Little's character is riding on horseback alone through the desert to accompanying background music, and he rides right past the Count Basis Orchestra on a stage playing that music, out where you would never expect to see them.

The similarity in the two scenes is so strong that I am inclined to believe that one of the writers for "Blue Harvest" 'borrowed' the idea of a live orchestra on a movie set from the Brooks movie, and that's OK as far as I am concerned.

Just an aside, when Peter is talking about the 'lessons learned' from the story, he mentions the genius of retaining marketing rights, or something. This is essentially Yoghurt's notion in Mel Brook's Spaceballs. Casting Stewie as Vader was not only natural, but played to the anti-stereotype of the villain being neither tall nor imposing, as did Brook's casting of Rick Moranis as "Dark Helmut". --Otheus (talk) 02:52, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Removed trivia/cultural reference

Dave Navarro was referenced in the episode, and as a result, he included the clip on his official website. [1]

While doing a drive-by edit of this article, I found this line uncomfortably wedged in at the top of the Cultural References section. It didn't seem appropriate for any of the subsections of the CR section, and may be a bit too 'trivia'-ish for the article, so I cut it out and put it here for those with greater involvement to decide on its fate. -- saberwyn 03:55, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Not quite right about the doctor who reference

The image you show does not really indicate what they were trying to do with the piss-take on Dr who. It wasn't the stars streaking, but rather the tunnel effect when the Falcon is in hyperspace resembling the slit scan dr who opening titles. Anybody want to fix that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.170.6.118 (talk) 13:07, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] "Thai" Fighter

The Imperial Pilots in the TIE fighters are wearing the colors of Thailand and the cutscene depicts a Thai pilot saying (roughly) "I will kill you all with the space guns." Anyone think this belongs in the cultural reference section? (source: [2]) aerotheque (talk) 10:29, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] John Williams

What is the song that plays when Luke points out John Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra?Nahka (talk) 16:10, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Links in the article

Under the cultural references section in the discussion of "don't get cocky/penisy" the word "cocky" is linked to the wiki article on cock, while the word "penisy" links to penis. Frankly I think it's hilarious, however it's probably inappropriate. Any thoughts? --Marshmellis (talk) 12:28, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
