Talk:Blue Amberol Records

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

What's the purpose of this page? Is this planned to be a listing of all Blue Ameberol titles?

Some explanation and a link to Edison Records would probably be usefull. If nothing else is done with this page, it might be better just making it a redirect to Edison Records. Wondering, -- Infrogmation 00:44, 30 Jul 2003 (UTC)

[edit] From Votes for deletion

  • Bullet Records, Blue Amberol Records, Blue Amberol Records Part 2, Black & White Records, Black & White Records Part 2 - catalogs of various record companies. unencyclopedic. - Efghij 02:52, 2 Aug 2003 (UTC)
    • Wikipedia is not paper; in cases of historic labels where it is clearly not advertising, I don't object to having such lists of minutia if someone wishes to take the trouble to make them. I don't feel particularly strongly about this, but I don't see any particular need to delete. -- Infrogmation 18:37, 3 Aug 2003 (UTC)
    • I entered these lists. The information is not available elsewhere on the internet. However the Blue Amberol label is covered more completely in book form and I would not mind if it was deleted. With Bullet and Black and White, I am hoping that collectors will help fill the gaps. JohnRogers
      • Leave 'em all. There should be more info about the labels in addition to release list. I can add a bit on Blue Amberol myself. -- Infrogmation 20:28, 9 Aug 2003 (UTC)
      • I say delete the lists. They are far from complete, haven't been updated in ages, and a complete list would be between 4000-5000 titles which doesn't seem appropriate for an encyclopedia. Discographic information is largely available (except for foreign Blue Amberols) in Alan Sutton's book and is also online (as an excel spreadsheet) at the Truesound discography page. - Babaluma

[edit] Page merge/reformat

Nice work, 128.187.232.208, on consolodating the "Blue Amberol Records Part 2" material and reformatting the page... except links to a number of people we have articles on (like Billy Murray (singer)) seem to have been taken out in the process for no reason I can see. -- Infrogmation 07:07, 6 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Hm. I'd quite like to see those links back in the article. I've left a note at the top of Blue Amberol Records Part 2 asking it NOT be deleted until either we reincorporate relevent links or I have some understanding on why anon thinks they shouldn't be linked. -- Infrogmation 07:14, 6 Jan 2005 (UTC)

[edit] clean-up Blue Amberol Records

First-off, the page is poorly written. I have cleaned it up a bit. Secondly, I feel that the listings of titles should be removed in their entirety. The entry is much too long. I have corrected some dates; these are cited in Alan Sutton's excellent publication, "Blue Amberol Records: A Discography", Mainspring Press, (c) 2005. ISBN 0-9671819-5-X. Lastly, I do not vote for the deletion of the page, nor should it be merged with the phonograph cylinder page or the Edison page.--Jslasher 01:03, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Don't delete the listings of titles, I've found them very useful in identifying various unreadable labels. Also, there are so many stupid, pointless lists in WP, one more won't hurt. But you're welcome to bring it into a nice format :) Kar98 02:45, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
I moved the list to List of Blue Amberol Records, as I felt its length warranted its own article. I also made an attempt at making Blue Amberol Records look more like a Wikipedia article. I think it now does at first glance, but still needs some work.boffy_b 01:00, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
