[edit] Errors

This map includes some errors:

  1. The red line does not indicate the international border, but the Israeli military front line according to the 1949 armistice agreement. The difference between this line and the international border may seem small, but it is significant.
  2. The Golan Heights were indeed part of Syria until 1967, but today this territory is equally claimed by Israel and Syria, and I think calling it a "part of Syria" is a bit POVized.
  3. The Shabaa Farms area has no boundery. Actually the whole dispute over that territory suffers from lack of information about the exact place of the border between Syria and Lebanon before 1967. Better say "Shabaa Farms area (approximation).
  4. The light-blue line is not the border of the UNIFIL zonne. It is the border of the former Israeli self-declared security zone (1985-2000). The UNIFIL zone extends northwards to the Litani river as shown in this UN map [1]. DrorK 13:36, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Excellent points. The map can be easily changed with Paint or any other such program. In retrospect, I should have written "claimed by Syria" instead of "part of Syria", so as to avoid the appearance of making judgements. nadav (talk) 11:47, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] False Information

As noted above above, this map is chock full of false information. The boundaries and territories mislabeled, and the information is hardly presented in a neutral fashion by any stretch of the imagination. Notecardforfree (talk) 18:20, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

It can be corrected, but not with my poor graphic software. DrorK (talk) 18:29, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
PS - there is a provisional definition for the Shab'a Farms borders, included in the UN secretary general's report from 30 October 2007 -
"Based on the information available, the senior cartographer has provisionally concluded that the Shab’a Farms area extends north-east from Moughr Shab’a village and north-west from Wadi al-Aasal. Thus, it is now possible to state that a review and analysis of recent evidence can provide the basis for a provisional definition of the geographical extent of the Shab’a Farms area as follows: starting from the turning point of the 1920 French line located just south of the village of El Majidiye; from there continuing south-east along the 1946 Moughr Shab’a-Shab’a boundary until reaching the thalweg of the Wadi al-Aasal; thence following the thalweg of the wadi north-east until reaching the crest of the mountain north of the former hamlet Mazraat Barakhta and reconnecting with the 1920 line." [edit] Spelling

The future editor of this map should also change boundery to boundary. Yonatan talk 16:19, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
