Bluefin tuna

Bluefin tuna may mean any of several species of tuna:
- Northern bluefin tuna Thunnus thynnus
- Southern bluefin tuna Thunnus maccoyii
- Pacific bluefin tuna Thunnus orientalis
Bluefin tuna are some of the most beautiful and endangered fish in the world’s oceans. In U.S. ocean territory, the catch of bluefin tuna has declined by 99% since 1963. Bluefin tuna were just one of 41 U.S. fish stocks experiencing overfishing at the end of 2007. The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is creating new rules for overfishing and environmental review.
