Blue Swords

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Blue Swords is an international figure skating competition organized by the Deutsche Eislauf-Union. Skaters compete in four disciplines: men, ladies, pairs, and ice dancing. Champions of the event win the "Blue Swords Trophy".

Blue Swords began as an international figure skating competition in East Germany, and was held annually between 1961 and 1998. Since then it has been held every two years in Chemnitz, Saxony, Germany. Recently it became a junior-level event, and in some years is chosen by the International Skating Union to be a Junior Grand Prix event. These are the only years when the event is held now. The next one will be helt in 2007.

The German name for the event is "Pokal der Blauen Schwerter", and is named after the blue swords trademark of the famous porcelain manufacturer Meißen. The Blue Sword Trophy is made of that porcelain.

The next Blue Swords will be held 10th to 14th October 2007 in Chemnitz. It will be part of the ISU Junior Grand Prix Series.
