Blue Mouse Theatre

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Blue Mouse Theatre is a small second-run movie theater located in the Proctor District in the north end of Tacoma, Washington.

It was originally opened November 23, 1923, and was named after a lounge in Paris. The theater was very successful, and in 1932 was purchased and renamed to the Proctor Theater. In 1972, it was re-purchased again and renamed the Bijou in 1980.

Because of many multiplexes moving into the area, the Bijou was threatened with becoming an office complex. However, in 1993, community activists purchased the Bijou and renamed it back to the Blue Mouse Theatre. The theater has become a community attraction, showing popular movies on a second run basis. The theater is partially supported by generous community donations.
