The Blue Island Metra station is located on the Metra Electric Metra line which run from downtown Chicago, Illinois to Blue Island, Illinois. It is in Zone D according to Metra fee schedules based on distance from downtown Chicago. This station is the western terminus of the Blue Island branch of the Metra Electric line.
The station on the south side of Vermont Street serves Metra's Rock Island District, which service splits here to the north; most trains travel north over the Suburban Line, while some rush-hour trains travel north-east.
