[edit] Question about Corrections

Hello. Thank you for the minor corrections to the article on [Levittown, Pennsylvania]. How does one happen to know one there has been substantial revisions, such that you are on the look-out for spelling mistakes and vandalism and the like? 00:25, 12 February 2006 (UTC)Richard Hurst (blondlieut@aol.com)

  • Greetings Blondlieut! Frankly, I have no way of knowing how substantial the changes to an article are before I look at it. I just look through the entries in Recent Changes (there's a link on the navigation box). I click "hist" to view the history of an article, compare the last two editors, and if the last editor wasn't a vandal, I check the article for spelling. Ninty-nine percent of all my edits are minor, I just enjoy participating.
  • By the way, the Levittown article looks great. You seem to have been spending a lot of time! Zen611 03:24, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bucks County NavBox

Howdy, I noticed you added a Bucks County Nav Box to the article on Levittown, Pennsylvania. You will note that "Brittany" is spelled wrong in the list of CDPs. If I knew how to change this ... I would change it. Thanks!! Blondlieut 05:13, 14 February 2006 (UTC)Blondlieut@aol.com

Thanks for pointing that out. For your own reference, any templates such as the Nav Box can be viewed/edited by going to - (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Bucks_County,_Pennsylvania) Thanks again, VerruckteDan 05:32, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Finland

Thanks for fixing some of the errors on the page. I replied to your message on the article's talk page. --Janke | Talk 06:49, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Finland's sole impetus for industrialization was to repay its debts to the Soviet Union? - Definitely the main impetus for the post-war industrialization, but not the sole one. Remember, this article appears to be written mostly by Finnish high-school pupils, so grammar, syntax and logic may be a bit flawed. Whatever you can and care to do in order to fix it is certinly an improvement. I think the same would apply to any article about any non-English speaking country... --Janke | Talk 16:18, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Even to the extent that this might be true (I have no idea how one would know), it strikes me as an odd thing for the Finnish editors of the page to want to say: "We engaged in effort to industrialize the country not to benefit ourselves, but to our debtors."Blondlieut 15:57, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

Me'n alegro moltíssim! :-) --Jdemarcos 00:07, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome to the forgiveness page

Thank you for your addition to the forgiveness page. It is great to see the interest growing. You may not have noticed, but the religions are arranged in alphabetical order. Unfortunately, that would put your submission at the end of that section. I think it is necessary, however, because the last thing that a forgiveness page should do is create resentments with others who might perceive they were “aced out.” This is an easy arbitrary way to chose order. Would you mind sliding it down? Thanks again and please visit often. --speet 22:59, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

Hey Blondlieut, I understand you thoughts, but my feeling is that the religion is most often known as Universalism. Also, if other branches of Christianity are eventially set out it would be by the name of the religion, not Christian Methodist for example. I would also ask that you try and keep the section as to the views on forgiveness as opposed to general views. Otherwise you will likely find someone editing the passage. Another editor and I struggled with where to put the A Course in Miracles section, which I took the lead on writing. I opted to put it another section below the religions. I hope that helps.--speet 08:14, 18 March 2006 (UTC) PS I borrowed your Bushie tag--I hope you don't mind. :)

It seems that some "general" information-- particularly on the area of soteriology-- is necessary to separate the Universalist "heresey" from its orthodox comrades, and to explain the idea of God's all-conquering love not as a means for ignoring sin (and thus ignoring the significance of foregiveness), but as a pattern to be emulated (every section is a hidden piece in apologetics. I disagree with your comparison between Christian Methodism and Christian Universalism-- there is no question that Methodists consider themsevles Christians, and that the world does as well, while Universalism is a broader term that includes self-identified Christians and non-Christians (and it's not like I just came up with the term-- as you'll see if you follow link 4, I believe). My explanation is based in Christian Universalism, and it was before I changed the name.Blondlieut 13:44, 18 March 2006 (UTC).

Hola. Walden69 15:21, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

I'm sorry if I'm missing something, but your contribution appears to be a general introduction to Christian Universalism, and says hardly anything directly to the point, about the very specific topic of forgiveness. The preceding section is not about Christianity: it's about Christian theological views on forgiveness. If you can't explain why your material is precisely relevant to this article, rather than a general article on the history and beliefs of Universalism, it will sooner or later be edited out (probably sooner). Myopic Bookworm 18:48, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
PS I've just looked at the section on Universalism in Christianity in the Universalism article, and I think it would actually be a great improvement to that article if you moved to there the material you have put in the Forgiveness article. In fact, I think there's some sorting out to do between the Universalism article and the Universal reconciliation article, dealing with Universalism as a Christian and post-Christian doctrine, including the history of the teaching in a general way through Christianity as distinct from the particular churches that have made a point of teaching it, and you can probably make a useful contribution to that.Myopic Bookworm 21:32, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
Hi. I'm sorry if it came across that way. Yes, my megalomaniac approach is probably something to do with the fact that I am a through-and-through, amateur and professional bookworm, a knowledge sponge, and an obsessive organizer of information. Of course I'm not 'in charge' of the forgiveness page: it's more speet's baby. I just got sucked into trying to keep it in shape as more folks added contributions. I was trying to be diplomatic (obviously failing), rather than simply saying to myself "what's all this stuff about universalism in Origen doing here?" and boldly deleting it. I'll go away if you want me to, and look at some nice science articles about creepy-crawlies... Myopic Bookworm 22:38, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
PS and are you going to do something with Universalism? You seem to know what you are talking about. Myopic Bookworm 22:40, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Blocked.

Hm? Last time I blocked any AOL ranges was a full week ago, and then I only did it for fifteen minutes. I'm not trigger-happy with rangeblocks, I only turn them on in the event that vandalism is getting out of control, to the point that the RC patrollers can't keep up with it. Your suggestions are duly noted, but please understand that AOL doesn't work the way you think it does -- AOL users will often change IP addresses with each pageload, based on how their backbone is set up; in most situations, it's either block everybody, or let it all through. If I ever do block AOL, I always do so with a good reason, and more importantly, always with "block anon users only" checked. Luna Santin 03:11, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

What probably happened was that Wikipedia got hit by an AOL denial-of-service vandal. Because of the mechanism for enforcing blocks on Wikipedia, the underlying IP of a blocked account is automatically blocked if that account attempts to edit a page or perform similar actions. However, AOL users frequently change IP addresses, as Luna Santin just described. A blocked user who is operating from AOL can force an entire AOL range to be blocked from editing Wikipedia. The sysops of this project try to catch those blocks when they happen, but sometimes it takes some time before it is noticed. For more information, and some tips on how to avoid getting snagged by such vandals, you might try reading Wikipedia:Advice to AOL users. Hope that answers your query a bit better. --Grass Stains 06:51, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
