The "no start to his talents" comment is hardly encyclopedic, is it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.141.99.172 (talk) 23:48, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

should the "ho ho" (a "ha ha" only deeper), his trout pond (only an inch wide, with a trout that was perfectly happy provided it did not want to turn around) and his maze (that was so small people got lost looking FOR it) be mentioned? I'm recalling these inventions from memory, I have no idea where they are introduced.

<<Interjection: They're introduced in Men At Arms during a visit to the Patrician by Dr Cruces, then head of the Assassins' Guild Captain Pedant 11:38, 31 May 2007 (UTC) >>

Well, if you consider the fact that the character of "Bloody Stupid Johnson" is intended as an humorous character, I condider this to be a page worth keeping, if only to maintain a comphrehensive Discworld collection. I agree on the quality of the article, though- it sounds like a blog that was cobbled together from several drugged people.-Raivein 02:08, Jun 20, 2005 (UTC)

I agree that this article could use a cleanup, but why is it marked POV? --193.11.222.179 17:47, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I marked it for a POV check because I felt that parts of the article were written with commentaries that seemed out of place and non-NPOV. Like Raivein said, this sounds kinda bloggish in some places. Since I know nothing about this subject, I wont be able to do much beyond grammar checks and neutralizing. Anyone willing to help will be appreciated highly. --Adun 23:45, Jun 24, 2005 (UTC)
I read the article in more detail, and I can't detect anything I would consider POV; most descriptions of his inventions and general prowess as an inventor and landscape designer are paraphrased directly from the books. Nothing appears to be purely speculative or re-interpreted... as far as I can tell it's faithful to the canon. B.S. Johnson is really described this way, and he was indeed rumored to have been shot in the leg by Lord Ramkin as a purely preventative measure! The article is in dire need of a cleanup, or better yet a rewrite, however. It appears very patchy and disorganized. I can take a look at it tomorrow and see if I can re-organize this into something better to take care of the cleanup issue, but at the moment I don't see any need for a POV tag at this time. If I do get around to rewriting this, I'll remove both tags an we can discuss further changes after that. --193.11.222.179 00:40, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I have rewritten the article and removed the cleanup tag. I hope this version will be considered an improvement. --193.11.222.179 15:22, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Death

Anyone know when he died? --Yar Kramer 01:33, 3 August 2005 (UTC)

I don't think it's ever explicitly stated that he's alive [i]or[/i] dead in any of the books. He's just presumed to be dead by the time the main events of the books occur. But as mentioned, we can assume he was alive 30 years ago anyway. The lack of any recent activity would lead one to believe he is either dead, retired, or has moved from Ankh-Morpork. I wouldn't be surprised if he shows up in some remote location in a future novel... --193.11.222.179 20:26, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
The idea of B S Johnson in the Aurient or Krull brings tears to the eyes. Imagine what he could do with the Red Army or the Circumfence. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.27.74.244 (talk) 13:16, 13 March 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Exploding Pagoda

We find out in Jingo (p. 115 in the HarperPrism hardback) that Johnson built an "the Johnson Exploding Pagoda", but not much else. Should this be included? How? Golwengaud 18:51, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] References and so on

While this is all more or less accurate, some of it is copied more or less verbatim from the books. This should probably be referenced properly. Eu neke 01:30, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Errors

I don't believe that the following was ever mentioned in Going Postal. The Sorting Machine's effect was attributed purely to having part of its structure outside normal space and time in order for a wheel of that nature to exist.

Deleted text:

(A reference to the idea that Pi is believed to be a normal number, and as a result it contains every possible combination of numbers somewhere in it, which decoded into letters in any way would sooner or later produce every possible text that could ever exist, including everything previously written, yet to be written or, indeed, never to be written. Another Discworld reference to this mathematical curiosity is Ponder Stibbons' work as "Reader of Invisible Writings" at Unseen University.)

[edit] Capability Brown

Of course everyone knows that the "Capability" in Brown's name does not refer to his own expertise (which was considerable) but to a peculiar use of the word to describe a garden's capacity for improvement. These days we would more usually say "potential". Captain Pedant 11:38, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
