I've removed the sentence "He argues that meaningful change did not begin to come to rural towns like Oxford until blacks began resorting to riots, violence and destruction in earnest, as they did in Oxford after Teel's trial" because I disagree that this is Tyson's position; this sentence gives the impression that Tyson is an advocate of violent revolt. Having read the book - and being a resident of Oxford for a dozen years and knowing the culture there - I have to strongly disagree with this impression and have thus removed the sentence. I also added information and wikilinks regarding Benjamin Chavis, and corrected information about when the book was written - the article I first saw claimed the book was written in 2005 and published in 2004! The book itself says it was borne from a thesis Tyson wrote while a student at Duke (I can't remember if it was a master's thesis or not, and don't have the book nearby, so I have left that aspect alone). I also believe that the fact of Tyson's father being a prominent local minister is relevant to the overall tone of the book, as well as Tyson's experiences related in the book. Finally, I've corrected the wikilink to Tyson's page.lowgenius My Talk Page 03:38, 22 September 2006 (UTC)mkln
[edit] African American autobiographies?
Should this really be in the category of "African American autobiographies"? Tim Tyson is not an African-American. Awbeal (talk) 19:43, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
