Bloomfield, Newfoundland and Labrador

Bloomfield is located on the east coast of Newfoundland, approximately 2 hours drive from the capital city of St. John’s and 1 hour drive from Bonavista.
The population of approximately 700 derives the majority of its employment from either working in the forestry or driving approximately 30 kilometres to the nearest service based community.
Children in Bloomfield travel to the neighboring community of Musgravetown to attend Anthony Paddon Elementary. This school houses grade kindergarten to grade six. Children in grades seven through twelve attend high school in the other neighbouring community of Lethbridge. As with the majority of small communities in Newfoundland, its young people usually leave after high-school graduation to find work various locations throughout mainland Canada.
Real estate is easy to come by in Bloomfield. The majority of home owners in Bloomfield own their homes and have no mortgages. As a result, real estate transactions can be made by simply asking around, as few 'for sale' signs are displayed.
Recreation is limited to outdoor activities. The Northwest Pond provides people with swimming during the summer and ice skating during the winter. Snowmobiles are also a common diversion in the area.
Common family names include: Wiseman, Holloway, House, and Reader.
