"Blood on the Dance Floor" was a hit record for Michael Jackson in 1997. It became a #1 hit for Jackson in the UK. The song did not appear again when The Essential Michael Jackson was released.
In 2007, it was revealed that the song debuted at #2 on the United World Chart, where it remained for 2 weeks. This was only "revealed" in 2007 due to the fact that the United World Chart had not been established in 1997 and only now, Media Traffic (the company that publishes the chart) is calculating charts years before the United World Chart had originally been made. On the cover of the single it shows Jackson performing Smooth Criminal on tour.

[edit] Music video
The video was filmed in the Netherlands and was shot during the HIStory tour. The video starts with a knife being thrown into a wall and Michael (wearing his hair in a braid) walking into a salsa club. A pretty woman in a red dress walks up to him then climbs up on the table and starts to dance. Michael smitten by this point sings about her. The video concludes with them dancing together and on the same note it started with a knife in the wall.
And unreleased version of the music video was edited because it was seen as too raw and sexy. This version had Jackson rubbing the girl's hips and another part cut out was the girl with a flick knife.
