Blood Warrior, originally Ooedo Fight (大江戸ファイト Ooedo Faito?) is a 2D fighting game released in arcades by Kaneko in 1994. It uses digitised images of real actors within the game, and its theme is similar to that of Mortal Kombat.
The game is deemed by some[who?] to be a sequel to Shogun Warriors although this has never actually been confirmed.
[edit] Gameplay
Blood Warrior gameplay is very similar to that of other 2d fighting games around the same era. However, Kaneko seem to have taken much of their inspiration from Midway's Mortal Kombat in terms of over the top gore and violence.
There are 9 characters to choose from, ranging from a ninja to a Buddha like entity and even a turtle like creature. Each character has their own weapons and special moves to use during a best of 3 round fight. After winning 2 rounds, the winning player can perform a fatality, most of which tend to be more humorous than disturbing. The fatalities are considerably easier to perform in Blood Warrior than in Mortal Kombat and usually require just performing a special move near the stunned opponent.
A video of all the fatalities can be seen here [1]
[edit] Popularity
Though Blood Warrior was deemed inferior to Mortal Kombat and generally was not very well known outside of Asia, there are a few dedicated fans of the game who enjoyed playing for the over the top and comical violence portrayed in the game.
Blood Warrior is very rare. The Killer List Of Video Games (KLOV) currently ranks the rarity as 2 out of 100 (100 being common, 1 being scarce). Finding an original dedicated cabinet for this game is near impossible.[1]
