Bloc Català

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bloc Català (Catalan: Catalan Block) is a Catalan nationalist political party of Northern Catalonia established in October 23, 2001. It defines itself as a center-left wing political party. It promulgates a "Catalan identity opened to the world". One of its proposals is the establishment of a "northern Catalan region" inside the french state. This party was one of the organizations that promoved a movement against the denomination Septimanie, that the president of the region of Llenguadoc-Rosselló Georges Frêche wanted to impose. As symbol of the Catalan resistance against that forced change they will adopt as pet a donkey disguised.

It participates since 2002 in all the elections of Northern Catalonia: cantonal, legislative, regional and european elections.

In December 3, 2006, the Bloc Català changed its name and it was converted in an autonomous federation, representative of Northern Catalonia, of the political party Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya.
