Thanks for your greetings and a Happy and Prosperous New year to you also. I am still going slow at the admin business and it nearly stopped for a while while I was overseas and then catching up with other stuff on my return. I cleared some AfD yesterday though. Cheers, Brian. --Bduke (talk) 06:52, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Cheers BBB and thank you for your New Year's wishes. Here's to working on that P R O S P E R O U S year! --VS talk 07:00, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
And thanks and best wishes for the New Year from me as well. As for a wonderful New Years Day; it was 41 here, too hot for me! Back to work (in an air-conditioned office) was actually a relief. Speaking of nationalist conquests there will be another campaign very soon. Your comments, suggestions, criticisms and improvements, as always, are welcome. Cheers, Mattinbgn\talk 07:08, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Yes, many thanks for your good wishes, mate, and the very best to you also. Re. Real Top Guns, SBS reception's a bit dodgy where I am so I'll probably get it out on DVD if/when it's available. Re. nationalist conquests, heh, when I saw that I assumed for some reason that you were talking about a recent test match... ;-) Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 07:27, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Happy New Year to you too! Best of luck in getting all of The Invincibles to FA status. :D Nishkid64 (talk) 07:52, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Happy New Year! Sorry to disappoint, but my New Years Day was rather unpleasant. I hope you had a good one, as I did on New Years Eve. Here, have a smoothie ↑ James086Talk | Email 09:45, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Cheers mate. I have managed to miss most of RTG, but I'm sure it will come round again. BTW did you hear that Nguyen is now reported to be one of the 10 most popular Aussie surnames? :-) Grant | Talk 10:12, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, about 40% of Viets have that surname. The Nguyen lords gave that surname to all their subjects who went south into what is now southern Vietnam during the southward expansion. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 01:52, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Thanks. Happy New Years to you as well. Heres to a more active (and hopefully will find the time personally be more active this year). --Arnzy (talk · contribs) 14:30, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Protection Template

Hi Blnguyen,

There is only one editor (Arrow740) who is causing the edit war by making undiscussed changes to the article and causing all the edit war(for this, please check an older version of the article and compare the changes). The editor has passed 3RR already. In any case, would you please add the Protection Template to the article meanwhile it is protected. Thanks --Be happy!! (talk) 09:34, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Actually Aminz, you are spreading false allegations about me. I have made two reverts in the last 24 hours, both justified in edit summaries and on talk pages. You've made three in one hour. Arrow740 (talk) 09:35, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Arrow, your additions are clearly biased, and if not anything, undiscussed. This is the root of the problem. And lastly, your comment contradicts itself because I can't have three reverts while you have two given that you are the one who is making the additions. --Be happy!! (talk) 09:52, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Actually, he could, since he could have put up new original content each time, rather than reverting your revert.Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:52, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Band

The band is going well... There are several big things in the works for it right now. It's hard to be more specific than that until we see what pans out. One interesting thing that happened recently was that we happened to meet a nice punk rock band from Melbourne when we were both in Washington, D.C. and New York City, and there was some talk of us going over to Australia. Adelaide looks like a nice place. Again, it all depends. It's difficult to see very far into the future.

Meanwhile, I'm absolutely fascinated with the coverage of the important first step of our presidential election, and very happy that my guy won. Grandmasterka 11:36, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Semi protected talk page??

On another note, while talking about the other topic, I have noticed you have a semi-protected talk page. How is it justified that anyones talk page is semi protected, if people post spam and continually attack you, it's a talk page and outside the view of the "normal user". In my opinion, semi protection should only be used in article pages when extreme circumstances of continual flamming and spamming permit. Surely if unsigned users can't if discuss with you things that represents a break down in communication. It is meant to be the encyclopedia everyone can edit, thats why we have unsigned users, if people can't even talk to you about your or their editing unless there signed doesn't that represent a move away from this idea. I am sure many will think that I am just complaining about anything cause of the last topic, but I assure you my disgust on this subject is completly seperate.--AresAndEnyo (talk) 03:48, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

A proper reason was given by the admin who inspected this page. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 04:18, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Harrasement from a banned user doesn't seem to be an acceptable reason for a long term semi protection or even a part time semi protection in my opinion. A better question is do you (Blnguyen) still support/want to have a semi protected talk page?--AresAndEnyo (talk) 05:18, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Tigeroo evading block

User:Shamiana is a sock of Tigeroo. His first edit is at Mahmud of Ghazni and has an unusual edit summary for a first edit, and his second edit is at Muhammad bin Qasim. Tigeroo is the main contributor to these pages. He created the page Bawarij. The rest are at Dahir (Raja). These pages are all about military topics involving India and Muslims; these are Tigeroo's favorite topics. His edits at Dahir use Tigeroo-style justifications for removing material. Tigeroo's recent edits with this sock are in evasion of his block. Arrow740 (talk) 06:05, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Bingo, that's him. I've reset his block for a month. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:18, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Is there any evidence that this was Tigeroo? Was there a checkuser?Bless sins (talk) 11:46, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Indeed there was. A direct hit. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 03:56, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

In this diff (and many others [1]) Tigeroo evades his block again. This is obviously him as you can see from the history of Islam where he used the same IP off by one digit there: [2]. He admitted that the latter IP was him: [3]. Arrow740 (talk) 19:59, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

I blocked him yesterday.Blnguyen (bananabucket) 05:25, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Checkuser or sockpuppetry report?

Hi, Blnguyen. I've got a case where I suspect a sockpuppet, but it isn't what I normally file a checkuser request for so I wasn't sure.

On the Talk:Mao: The Unknown Story, I'm having a discussion with User:Xiaodingjin who has previously attempted to insert links of his own work onto wikipedia. After April 2007 he disappeared, only to re-appear recently and complain about the removal of the links to his work.

Then another user appeared today, User:Dariusdaman. He created his account at 17:03, 15 January 2008 and then edited the Talk:Mao: The Unknown Story page at 17:19, 15 January 2008 to support Xiaodingjin. This clearly indicates he arrived just to support Xiao as he hasn't done anything subsequently (so at least probably a meatpuppet), but I think their standard of English suggests they are the same person.

I could file an ordinary sockpuppet report, but as that's very backed up I wondered if this might warrant a "G" checkuser request - I didn't want to waste people's time if it would automatically be rejected. My reason for the request is that Xiao knows he can't insert the link (was blocked for 3RR and then indef banned, only having it lifted when he promised to stop) and has not had any support since he came back - so he could be trying to influence the decisions of other users by creating "supporters".

Your thoughts would be welcome - please respond on my talk page. John Smith's (talk) 18:10, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

I've blocked it as a meatpuppet. It appears to be in different locations though. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 23:56, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Ok, thank you. John Smith's (talk) 07:24, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
One more thing - what (if any) should be done about the meatpuppet's comments? Delete, tag as meatpuppet, or just leave as they are? If one of the first two I'd appreciate it if you could do that. Thanks again. John Smith's (talk) 08:00, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Oh, I did the usual AFD thing. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 05:25, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Darius is back

It looks like User:Dariusdaman is back. User:Dariusisdaman appeared today editing a host of articles spamming the same link. For example there is his edit here to the Jung Chang article. It's the link to the same article as was supported on Talk:Mao: The Unknown Story, though on a different website.

Would you mind blocking him and reverting his link spammage? Thank you. John Smith's (talk) 21:56, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Done, Blnguyen (bananabucket) 05:25, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
Thank you. I cleared the link spam from the other articles. John Smith's (talk) 07:32, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] More sock/meatpuppets

It looks like yet another account has been made to spam the link in. User:Historydegreeisajoke inserted the link on the Mao: The Unknown Story page today. Please check against Darius and Xiaodingjin. Thank you, John Smith's (talk) 18:10, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

FYI I added some sockpuppet/puppet master tags to User:Dariusisdaman and User:Dariusdaman, as well as created a category for his socks. I didn't know if that was necessary or not, but thought it looked tidy. John Smith's (talk) 00:26, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Project

Lovely! The other is Alec Henry from Qld, but I know nothing about him. —Moondyne 08:46, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Albert Henry. There is a book in the libary about Jack Marsh, so there are bits comparing him to the other Indigenous bowlers. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 08:25, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
Nah, Alec [4]. "Alec represented Queensland in 1901 and was initially lauded as "perfectly civilised and in great command of the English language." A great fast bowler, in one pre-season match he took 8-14 which led to predictions that he would have a place in the Australian side against the visiting English. Unfortunately, an umpire judged that he was throwing and his place in the national team never eventuated. His protests fell on deaf ears and when his 'civilised' conduct appeared to falter, he was forcibly relocated from Brisbane on the charge of "defying authority." —Moondyne 08:40, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
It's the same fellow as the one my chucking book refers to as Albert Henry. He did a prank on the umpire by deliberating throwing some balls which the umpire didn't notice but the proper ones were no-balled.... Blnguyen (bananabucket) 08:48, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
Yep, found about 3 pages on him in a book. Should have 10k on this fellow approximately. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:47, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
