Talk:Bliss
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I reorganized the page for better clarity and removed two items: jpg and one book.
- While it may be more convenient to have personal names listed here, it produces the problem of maintenance of two separate lists: here and in the List of names. Unfortunately mediawiki software does not have database management capabilities, so that this kind of data could be kept automatically in sync in multiple page.
- The book and all names mentioned cannot be confirmed. If you find it spelt correctly, welcome to reinsert.
- To have a reference to a jpg is ridiculous IMO. But if you find it important, please write an article (You have already written a big piece, enough for a decent stub). mikka (t) 17:07 [& 17:13, per history], 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)
My changes reflect the MOS standards, including the following:
- I found the dict-def-style
-
- Happiness which invokes a union of physiological and psychological harmony. In Buddhism an elevated consciousness.
- , stripped it down to
- state of physiological and psychological harmony sought in Buddhism
- and realized what i started from is really just a dict-def for Buddhist bliss (and thus not includable here, tho conceivably there could be a lk to Wictionary if (unlikely IMO) it slices the distinctions that thin), and fails to imply either Buddhism or consciousness actually discusses bliss in that sense. If one of them does,
- lk the appropriate word, into the language i worked up or something terse along those lines, to an appropriate section of the article,
- pipe it to the article title w/ the article title but not the section coding showing, and
- add it.
- IMO it is not obvious that "Bliss" is not being used to mean "Blissymbols" when someone writes "those Blisswidgets" rather than "those widgets some guy made up to represent basic concepts". If there are documentable instances (uh, dating from before 20:32, 2005 June 8 when Mikkalai complained abt linking to them), i think i would support that entry here.
- (Even then, it probably should still be in a "See also" section. I'm not sure that restoring it in such a std section even without evidence of confusion potential: IMO its former status as an equal of the other entries was the best reason for removal.)
- I've substituted "Geographic names" for "Settlements", since the lakes and mountains, when they turn up, should be under the same bullet (even if the settlements then need a sub-bullet)
- Note well: discussion of the following is beyond the scope of this page and should be pursued at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages)#Personal Names:
- The following is very precisely worded:
- People named "Bliss", appearing in a List of people by name: Bl-Bn
- (if it is their surname, but otherwise only if they are better known as simply "Bliss" than by their surname)
- People named "Bliss", appearing in a List of people by name: Bl-Bn
- to avoid distraction but reflect that there is a place on List of people by name: Mad-Mam#Mad for Madonna -- even tho i trashed, without a moment's hesitation, the lk to Bliss Carman from List of people by name: Bl-Bn#Bliss. (And no, he doesn't belong on this talk page's corresponding Dab "article" either; his given name is so pointless an access path to his bio that accomodating that purpose on a Dab in any way is simply clutter.)

- I'm just going to apply my interpretation of the style to [[Bliss]], which has no real difference except that in my opinion it's more skimmable, which was part of my goal for this manual - for a user to be able to skim a page without having to filter out anything. I hope you don't mind - I just want to clear the style up a bit and show what I had in mind when the manual was implemented for its first time. Neonumbers 8 July 2005 10:06 (UTC)
- And about that, I'm not sure what the policy is for people - shouldn't all those people in that list be listed here as well? The reason I say this is because the list of people by name is for people to look at a list by name, whereas this is a disambiguation page and users shouldn't have to go through another link.
- The main change I made was the removal of bullet points - the visual aid of having bullet points for and only for actual entries is (imo) important. Neonumbers 8 July 2005 10:14 (UTC)

[edit] Section headings
I don't think they add anything to this dab page, and they reduce the skimmability of the page. What if they fell off? Josh Parris ✉ 07:28, 22 July 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Fictional names
What about fictional characters, like Blissenobiarella? I would have expected to find her in this disambiguation page... -- Jokes Free4Me 17:29, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Paradox
Is it not a paradox of some gigantic proportion that the term which is the origin of all the rest resides at the bottom of the page, as entry no. 24? __meco 17:19, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
++ It doesn't even seem to be there at all now!!!!! What the .... is that all about? Bliss (happiness) should be a page on its own with all these items as a disambiguation listed on the main bliss page —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.151.150.54 (talk • contribs) 2007-07-02 21:56:50
[edit] Bliss (film)
I went ahead and merged the content from Bliss (film). It seemed senseless having a seperate dab page for a couple of films, neither of which had articles. PC78 18:46, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
