[edit] HEY BLANKVERSE, vandalism in progress...

Hello1779 has blanked out all of the Pomona Boys gang webpage for some reason. He was also the creator of the Nip family webpage which has been deleted(but has been made again after a few days after it's deletion) for lack of citation and reference(because he made it all up). I live in Orange County and the Nip Family have been shot by the Pomona Boys on several occassions... perhaps this is their way of retaliating? lmao, i don't know but i went ahead and reverted the blank page and can you fix it from further being vandalized? thank you =) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.8.74.207 (talk) 14:34, 23 February 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Re: Hey DICK!

I invoke the essay (and I do not do so lightly) because, in my considered opinion, your actions are grossly harmful to Wikipedia.

The creation and operation of WikiProjects—the entire WikiProject system, in other words—is run primarily on the basis of common understandings and gentlemen's agreements. Foremost among these is the fundamental principle that WikiProjects are basically autonomous, and do not interfere with the internal operations of other WikiProjects. This has been the case for as long as WikiProjects have been around, and has largely been responsible for the current friendly relations among the active projects.

What you're pushing for, however, is an adversarial system, where WikiProjects must worry about protecting their operations from the intrusion of other, competing WikiProjects. Your actions are entirely unprecedented; there has never been a systematic effort by one WikiProject to limit the scope of another over that other project's objections. For example, currently nobody really cares about the creation of new projects, since they're harmless at worst; multiple projects can happily coexist in the same subject areas. In your setup, on the other hand, larger projects would be forced to destroy their own child projects; failure to do so would mean that large swathes of their scope would suddenly become inaccessible to them, whether for recruitment, or article assessment, or anything else they may wish to do. (If I were less respectful of WP:POINT, I would create WikiProject Southwestern California and demonstrate just how quickly—and how pervasively—this balkanization will take root.)

I have no idea, frankly, why you think that this approach is a good idea; based on my experience with WikiProjects, I would argue that it's utterly inappropriate, and will lead to nothing but ever-increasing conflict. Kirill Lokshin 17:49, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

You are, I think, slightly missing the point. Whether or not the division seems logical to WP:SOCAL doesn't matter in the least; the point is that it's simply not up to WP:SOCAL to determine what WP:CAL considers to be in- or out-of-scope. If you get the go-ahead from WP:CAL to remove its tags, fine; but I refuse to countenance this sort of unilateral expulsion of a different WikiProject from articles which they themselves believe to be relevant to them. Kirill Lokshin 06:09, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mudville

BV - I just wanted you to know that I'm sorry that there is no joy. I see that my efforts to have a discussion on this topic are bugging you, and I really regret if this discussion is causing you to be less motivated here!

Image:Baseball (ball) closeup.jpg
"Barnball" to say thanks for all those RBIs.

You've hit lots of home runs here, my friend, and will hit many more. It's the optimist in me that makes me think that a sensible solution is available here amidst thoughtful people. Wikipedia needs people like you (lots of them!) who are kind, hard-working, stable, and able to keep their heads clear and calm.

I don't see a baseball barnstar, or I'd give you one to say thank you, so here's a small token instead. C'mon, champ, batter up! There's more home runs to hit . . . Spamreporter1 22:43, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Keep the faith

For all your efforts, you are not alone and a valued contributor. Instead of Mudville, remember: The Impossible has Happened and Kirk Gibson. May you walk off the field of honor, maybe beaten like he but known for having hit a homer and return for more plate appearances. Ronbo76 21:13, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you

I understand your frustrations of late, and wanted to come thank you for your dedication and hard work. I know you have always intended to just start WP:CAL and WP:SOCAL and bring them to a point that they run autonomously, but the projects would be far different without your insight, coordination, and dedication. Thank you. Brien Clark 06:19, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] To a friend

I know you don't "do barnstars," but you deserve this picture of one, then. You have worked tirelessly, enlessly, and worthily on countless California related articles. Kudos to you. Vita non est vivere sed valere vita est.ScouterSig

[edit] Updates to templates "user-t" and "user-t2"

I have taken the liberty of adding some flexibility to both of these templates. I hope you like the results. If not, please feel free to revert everything I've done to them; I'll have no hard feelings, and I'll apologize to you for the inconvenience.

{{user-t}} now allows you to use an optional third parameter for the alternate name on the other system.

In fact, BlankVerse isn't "VersaBlanca", but this is for the sake of example.

This frees up {{user-t2}} to be used for two other systems, with alternate names again optional:

In fact, BlankVerse isn't "Haiku" either; this is still for the sake of example.

Note that leaving out the subdomains or projects, and the alternate names, makes either of these behave just like {{user-c}}:

If no parameters are entered at all, you see an "Example" result rather than raw code:

The documentation pages (and Wikipedia talk:Translators available#New templates) have been updated to reflect this greater flexibility.

And may I say what a delight it has been to study your coding and to have the honor of trying to build upon your work. -- BenTALK/HIST 06:40, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re:WikiProject maintenance

(From your posts on WP:CAL and WP:SOCAL.)

I can look at the signpost most weeks, but I'm hesitant to "officialize" myself because I will have only intermittant internet over the summer, as I help run a Boy Scout Camp. —ScouterSig 15:04, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Chicago & Philadelphia style consensus

Howdy, I'm doing an analysis of the votes on the Chicago and Philadelphia page moves at User:Agne27/City, State convention/Chicago & Philadelphia style "Consensus" with a discussion on the talk page about what this means about the page move process. You did not participate in the Philadelphia move, so I would like to confirm if I was correct in my assumption that you would have opposed it if you were aware. I would also like your general input on the discussion page about these moves. AgneCheese/Wine 19:13, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Southwestern

BV - Thank you for your assistance in moderating the Southwestern page - your neutrality was (and continues to be) invaluable. I have put in a request to have the redirect switched so the main page is Southwestern Law School and the redirect is Southwestern University School of Law - so look for that soon (I hope!). I am new at this, but I don't think I am going to have many problems. If I do, you might be hearing from me!!!

[edit] Deletion debate on ZIP codes

An {{afd}} tag has been placed on List of 56 ZIP codes and many other pages, requesting that they be deleted from Wikipedia. All Wikipedians can join the debate at Articles for deletion, where articles asserted to be inappropriate to Wikipedia are discussed. You are encouraged to submit your opinion, and remember that Articles for Deletion debates are not a vote. Please do not remove the deletion tag yourself, but don't feel inhibited from editing the article, particularly if doing so makes it clear that it is a useful contribution to an encyclopaedia. [edit] Yoghurt

I want to start out by saying I'm really sorry that this happened - I did my best to stop it, but sadly I have been overruled by 4 people who are obsessed with name changing (regardless of whether or not I agree with them), and there is a new debate on the Yoghurt talk page about the move - I just felt it would be best if most people who had voted in the past knew about this.danielfolsom 02:27, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. [edit] Unspecified source for Image:Stanley_'Tookie'_Williams_mugshot.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Stanley_'Tookie'_Williams_mugshot.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 11:46, 9 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 11:46, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Sunkist logo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Sunkist logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 19:56, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
