[edit] Wikimedia Canada

Hi there! I'd like to invite you to explore Wikimedia Canada, and create a list of people interested in forming a local chapter for our nation. A local chapter will help promote and improve the organization, within our great nation. We'd also like to encourage everyone to suggest projects for our national chapter to participate in. Hope to see you there! -- user:zanimum

[edit] Masada: Alef

Why did you change the track listing from Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums format using en-rules to non-project format using hyphens? --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 09:35, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Prsonally I prefer no gap between the dash and the timing (which is how it's presented on many CDs). It's not worth edit-warring over, though I'd point out that the version without the gap is pretty common in Wikipedia articles). --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 16:13, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia_talk:Censorship

A revised version of the proposed policy against censorship is now open for voting. Will you kindly review the policy and make your opinions known? Thank you very much. Loom91 11:39, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tawkerbot2

Your recent edit to Friedrich Nietzsche was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to recognize and repair vandalism to Wikipedia articles. If the bot reverted a legitimate edit, please accept our apologies – if you bring it to the attention of the bot's owner, we may be able to improve its behavior. Click here for frequently asked questions about the bot and this warning. // Tawkerbot2 16:32, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

Hey there. Sorry about getting dinged by the bot. I've fixed the behavior in question, and made an edit to the page which may serve as a clue as to why the bot dinged you in the first place. If you have any other troubles, don't hesitate to bring it to my attention via tawkerbot2's talk page. Thanks for your understanding about this! joshbuddytalk 17:43, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Sugarman Three

I've restored this article per your request. I've also downgraded the speedy deletion nomination to a WP:PROD deletion nomination, generally a week long process. Please don't remove this without adding to the article and being sure that it meets the terms of WP:BAND. — xaosflux Talk 03:49, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Note on references

You added/changed a footnote in Carmen which references "Note 3 above". This is fragile because the numbering of footnotes, particuarly in a long article, can be disturbed by adding other footnotes. In your case, before some additions I made, there was no "Note 3 above" (there is now but probably isn't what you meant). The new <ref></ref> system allows named footnotes, and they can be referenced in mutiple places beyond their initial by that name, but a suitable number, perhaps out of order, will be displayed to the reader. Modus Vivendi 05:27, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Further to the above comment, the same footnote text can be referred to in more than 1 place in an article by giving it a name, as follows:

  • Initial creation

Georges Bizet wrote many operas<ref name="Carmen">His most famous is Carmen, which Bizet did not live to see become the wonderful success it is today.</ref>

  • Other text
  • Another use

The President of France awarded Bizet the Legion of Honor for his actions during the [[Franco-Prussian War]] on the same day as the premiere of his final opera<ref name="Carmen"/>

This means that in each of the two places the same footnote number will appear, even if the "Other text" creates other footnotes. There is no mechanism provided to refer to another footnote by its number, but a footnote can be referenced in more than one, place, that may accomplish most of that purpose with some adjustment of the notes themselves.

See Wikipedia:Footnotes for more information Modus Vivendi 06:54, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

During further repair of the Carmen page, I merged Notes 3 and 6 (which were identical except for the spelling of "Georges") into one Note using the setup described above. But mostly I discovered why I was confused: there are "References" (books) and Notes (footnotes). Some of the Notes refer to the References by number, but the References also have numbers. So the footnote you repaired referred to "Note 3" but meant Reference 3 Modus Vivendi 08:46, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Architecture Wikiproject

I was wondering if you might be interested in joining Wikipedia:WikiProject Architecture. Also we've been revamping the Architecture Portal and nominations to Portal:Architecture/Selected picture candidates and Portal:Architecture/Selected article candidates will always be welcome.--Mcginnly 08:52, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

  • Great stuff. As and when you are ready - and as little or as much as you like then. Cheers --Mcginnly 14:38, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Grime

Is there any way to redirect a page to a category? There is no need to delete, i think, since a bold redirect would be useful, due to people possibly searching for the list of grime artists. If possible, it should be redirected to your proposed category? Or otherwise to the Grime article itself. Jdcooper 13:41, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

I'm trying to build a consensus for a Wikiproject Peer review process. I've opened a discussion page here. Would you like to comment? Would you be prepared to take part in the peer review process? Many thanks. --Mcginnly | Chinwag 12:28, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] IG Farben Building FAC

Also, I posted the IG Farben Building on the FAC on the 17th July. It currently has a support consensus, but only from 4 people. I'd be more comfortable with a stronger consensus and was wondering if you might be prepared to comment on the article? Many thanks. --Mcginnly | Chinwag 12:28, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Non-free use disputed for Image:Skream! (album).jpeg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Skream! (album).jpeg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:57, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:SJDKNaturally.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:SJDKNaturally.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 09:55, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:Cremaster1BlimpDance.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Cremaster1BlimpDance.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. [edit] AfD nomination of Pirates Records

An editor has nominated Pirates Records, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pirates Records and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 01:59, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Pirates Records

A tag has been placed on Pirates Records requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Merzbow-1930.jpg

Thank you for uploading Image:Merzbow-1930.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 14:34, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Cremaster4Satyr.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Cremaster4Satyr.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --05:48, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
