[edit] Spanish

From the article:

It has been suggested [citation needed] that the word originates from the Spanish verb hablar, which means "to talk". When hablar is conjugated to the imperfect tense, it becomes hablaba, hablabas, hablabamos, hablabais, and hablaban.

That doesn't make any sense. I'm removing it. – Andyluciano 18:55, 1 April 2006 (UTC) blah is also used in conversation, mostly used when someone is bored... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Amilakann (talk • contribs) 03:47, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

NOOOOOOOOOO! DONT REMOVE IT!- 12hernn 00:39, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
Actually it's conjugated hablo hablas habla hablamos and hablan GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT! 68.97.64.36 17:57, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
hablo, hablas, etc. is the PRESENT tense. hablaba, hablabas, etc. is the correct IMPERFECT tense, as said before. Explodingpig 18:35, 13 February 2007
That does make sense: in fact the reason I looked this up was because I came up with that very theory! Listen, if some one were to say "he speaks, he speaks, he speaks" is spanish (which is the essential meaning of blah blah blah) it would be spoken: "habla habla habla" which sounds almost exactly the same as "blah blah blah!" Vyroglyph 03:24, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
Whaddaya mean, "it doesn't make sense"? The reasoning is quite clear. Removing on such biased ground is not very community friendly. However, the "citation needed" tag was rightly placed, and we now know that this is "original research", so: out it must go. --Jerome Potts 05:26, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Use as an interjection?

From the article:

BLLLAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!' - used to show anger instead of a curse!

I've never heard of anything like this. "Blah" makes a horrible interjection displaying anger - you want a fricative or ejective, not the boring sounds of "blah." The OED says it can be used an interjection showing derision, but that's not what's described here. I'm removing it. LWizard @ 06:25, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Bad idea, LizardWizard person. Even the Oxford English Dictionary can be wrong. Who knows? Wikipedia might have mistaken another interjection for blah. You can't be completely sure of anything, Mr. Magic Dinosore.

I heard Homer Simpson say BLLAAAAHHHH!!! to show his anger--Taida 19:01, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
homer simpson is hardly a reliable source. I agree to LizardWizard. ~ crazytales56297 -talk- 22:07, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

I always thought it woz (psst, you spelled was wrong) just a way of saying I'm bored eg. when something is boring some people use the saying 'blah blah blah. Cut the chat this is doing my head in' it is also used by authours and script writers as a way of saying people talk to much! Luv ya all!!! --86.132.40.156 11:31, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

You can also use Blah to describe a person eg."My teacher is so Blah" meaning "My teacher is so utterly boring, gross or just plain sucks"

[edit] Humanspeak?

I remember that in High School, I was taught that "blah blah" is merely the transcription of the way human vocalizations sound in a crowd. Cows go "moo moo", sheeps go "beh beh" and humans basically go "blah blah". Can anyone verify this (or, at least, has anyone ever heard this theory before)? MIP 21:07, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Blah and vampires

Might be a silly subject, but have noticed blah associated with vampires at least in the US. I'm not sure where this came from exactly but its definitly there.

One theory someone had was that the old Seaseme Street show had The Count, a vampire character who would often count and do simple addition or subtraction with bats and other vamipre associated objects to teach numbers to children. He often would exclaim Blah! Blah! This was perhaps because they thought saying Blood! Blood! was inappropriate for children. Imagine if he had said "I want to suck your blah!" :)

Thought I should put that thought out there to see if anyone else had any comments on the subject.

Also, about a year ago I created this page because was wanting a place to refer people when they asked what blah meant due to my habbit of using it in online chat alot. Was my first article creation (sorry realize now I should have put it on wiktionary) and was amazed that within a short time it had been cleaned up and has become a very handy article, thanks alot to those who voted to keep it.

>> (reply): I think that the sound Vampires made when attacking in Heroes II or some Might&Magic was similar to 'Blah'.

[edit] Removal of prod

I've removed the prod because this article is at least sufficient on its own to warrant greater discussion; further, it was previously nominated for AFD, and the wiktionary page isn't nearly as comprehensive in its treatment of the subject. If you do want this article deleted, please create another AFD request for it instead. Mindmatrix 16:43, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Transfer section into discussion

That one section with the really long name about the person who wrote this being a dork and a loser doesn't belong in the actual article it belongs in the discussion page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.195.133.53 (talk) 22:38, 21 December 2006 (UTC).

[edit] Worldwide view

I added {{Worldwide}} because I don't know whether these uses are confined to American English — someone needs to double check and write which ones are American- (or American- and Canadian-, etc.) only. — \sim Lenoxus " * " 23:49, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it seems that way to me too. I'm British and have never heard "Blah you!", "Hmmmm… blah", "Also, when I… blah…" or the fact it is used to express laziness or is a noise made by lovers. Orkie2 11:01, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hi

Once upon a time When pigs were swine And monkeys chewed tobbaco And hens took snuff To make themselves tough and the ducks said quack-quack-quacko And porcupines Drank firey wines And goats ate tapioca And old mother hubbard Got stuck in the cupboard trying to get some mocha.

Some of you might not get it, but ginger_bread gets it! Superkittydance 21:23, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A simple error

I'm not able to edit the page since it is currently locked, but I noticed a small error: Towards the end of the page, the line "Also, when I… blah… - to show a that the speaker forgot what he/she was talking about" should have the 'a' removed. --Rhussey84 04:57, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

I fixed it. -- Gogo Dodo 05:09, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Another simple error

There is a period after the link to metasyntactic variable, at the very bottom. I.D.I.M.B.T.P.I.L —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.122.74.149 (talk) 01:37, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Internet Slang

Ok, I guess I can't just edit in this little thing I noticed since some genius LOCKED THE PAGE, but I'll throw this out to y'all... The Demented Cartoon Movie (albinoblacksheep.com) uses blah for this werid thing involving stick dudes getting their heads blown off (long story) when they say "blah"... Just somebody add it in teh article or call me an idiot... - Whatever —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.32.252.104 (talk) 17:04, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Blah love games?

I've never heard of blah love games, and a quick google search for "blah love" only results in websites about an album "Blah...Blah...Blah...Love Songs for the New Millennium" by Scum of the Earth. Therefore, this sounds like vandalism, but since this comment has been there for at least two months, I figured I'd ask someone else if they know what this references first before removing it. Vaaht (talk) 05:22, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

i've never heard of "blah love games" either. Who put it in there, and why?!! 82.43.141.45 (talk) 19:40, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Meily
it was added here. Unsourced, i'm removing it. --Jerome Potts (talk) 09:12, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] google search for 'blah'

there's now 36 million, near to 37 million, hits when typed into Google. this might want refreshing in the article.

>> I just checked, and as of January 2, 2008, there are 36,700,000 hits. 82.43.141.45 (talk) 19:37, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Problematic link

In the "Etymology and history" section the discussion of O'Brien's book Wine, Women, and War has been at some point apparently censored without examination of the consequences. A significant expletive (although one used in an aside on the book not relevant to this article) was replaced with ----. If one follows the link, one finds that ---- is used to indicate an untitled Lithuanian book by Edvardas Gudavičius. I reversed the censorship once, but my edit was reverted because it was assumed to be vandalism, which, objectively speaking, it does indeed resemble. Nevertheless, if the sentence is to remain, Wikipedia is not censored, and if it were, it probably would not be censored by replacing offensive words with Lithuanian historical polemics. However, there is no real reason for the sentence to remain in this article; unless a source is provided, all reference to the book in question may be removed. For the time being I'll leave it up to the other editors of this article to decide the appropriate course of action. --Kineticman (talk) 23:40, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, User:Gobeirne, for resolving this. --Kineticman (talk) 19:01, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
