It comprises the towns of Blaydon, Whickham, Ryton, Birtley and surrounding villages in the periphary of the Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead.

Following their review of parliamentary representation in Tyne and Wear, the Boundary Commission for England has created a modified Blaydon constituency to be fought at the 2009 or 2010 general election, from the following electoral wards;

Birtley, Blaydon, Chopwell and Rowlands Gill, Crawcrook and Greenside, Dunston Hill and Whickham East, Lamesley, Ryton, Crookhill and Stella, Whickham North, Whickham South and Sunniside, and Winlaton and High Spen
