Blane Nordahl
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Blane Nordahl (b. 1962) is a high end cat burglar who specialized in stealing silver from mansions. He worked primarily on the East Coast before he was caught.
While he was active, he would scout for large mansions through Architectural Digest, and then go on a drive with a realtor to look at them. At night he would then return to the ones which seemed the most secluded, methodically work his way past all their security systems, and make off with only the silver.
Nordahl considered himself a gentlemanly burglar and spoke of his theft as an art form.
Nordahl has successfully stolen from over 100 mansions and stolen nearly US$10 million worth of silver[1]. Nordahl stole silver because it was often kept in the kitchens away from the family sleeping areas and, therefore, easier to get away with.
Nordahl's story has been featured in both print and media, including a writeup in the New Yorker by Stephen Dubner[2], and featured on an episode of the real crime TV show Masterminds[3]
On December 23, 2004, he was sentenced to eight years in prison.[4]
