The blackmouth lanternshark, Etmopterus evansi, is a shark of the family Dalatiidae found off Western Australia and the Arafura Sea, at depths of between 430 and 550 m. Its length is up to 26 cm.
The blackmouth lanternshark is slender, with rather narrow eyes and a pale naked patch on the upper eyelid. The caudal peduncle is elongate. The hook-like denticles are extremely dense, very thin, delicate, and arranged in poorly defined longitudinal rows. It is found on the outermost continental shelves and upper slopes.
Coloration is light brown above, becoming darker ventrally with black around the mouth. Distinct black markings behind the pelvic fins, on the caudal peduncle, and the upper caudal fin.
Reproduction is ovoviviparous.
