Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled is an upcoming RPG for the Nintendo DS. It is being developed by Studio Archcraft, a fairly new video game developer which is based in Montréal, Canada. Graffiti Entertainment is set to publish it sometime in 2008.[1] The game was originally planned for release on Nintendo's GameBoy Advance system, but Studio Archcraft made the decision to move the game to the Nintendo DS as by the time the game was nearing completion, the GBA market was starting to dry up.[2] When the game became well known around the Internet in 2006, it was called Project Exile.[3]

[edit] Story

Bel Lenora is a magical kingdom where everyone can use magic. A long time ago, a man who could not use magic named Vai entered Bel Lenora and brought about a great tragedy. At high cost to the kingdom, Vai was banished by one of the kingdom's Generals. Fifteen years after that event, a young man named Kairu ventures into Bel Lenora, and it is found that he is also unable to use magic.[4][5]

[edit] Kairu

The main character, and the game's protagonist. A war-orphan who is taken in by the unnamed General who defeated Vai. He is unable to use magic which causes people to distrust him. He faces exile and persecution because of this.

[edit] Aurora

Kairu's sister. In the trailer and other videos she appears assertive, and cheerful. She has the ability to use Fire magic.

[edit] Nephi

A character who is interested in Kairu's sword, and appears to be a womanizer. Although it's unclear if he flirts with all women, or if he is just infatuated with Aurora.[6]

[edit] Isa

A white haired woman who uses two scimitars. She is a playable character.[7]

[edit] Vai

The only other person known to have no ability to use magic at all. 15 years before the beginning of the game, he betrayed Bel Lenora and led an army of demons and their worshippers against the kingdom.[8] He is a playable character as a member of the party.[7]

[edit] Rogurd

A one-eyed Treasure Hunter, and a playable character. He uses a large pole axe.[7]

[edit] Nym

Another playable character seen in the official trailer.[7]

[edit] Gameplay

Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled is console styled RPG, and features the traditional turn-based combat style that usually accompanies the genre. Where Black Sigil differs from most RPGs is its attempts to add a tactical aspect which requires the player to observe the positions of his or her characters and also the positions of the enemies.[9][10]
