Black Friday Rule
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Black Friday Rule is a song by the Celtic punk band Flogging Molly. It describes the emigration of the band's lead vocalist Dave King from Ireland to California.
[edit] Discography
The song first appeared on Flogging Molly's 1997 live album Alive Behind The Green Door. A studio version was later released on Swagger, Flogging Molly's first studio album. An extended live version of the song is included on Whiskey on a Sunday, a CD/DVD combo album.
[edit] Importance to Band
On the Whiskey on a Sunday DVD Dave King mentions the song and describes it as a favorite of his. In an explanation he comments that the song covers much of the band's style as well as their influences, and really brings a performance together, as this song is the closest the band has to a "jam" song. Some Irish living in the United States have said that this song really brings them home to Ireland.[citation needed] This song is now used as their encore performance at concerts, with the majority of the song being played by King on an acoustic guitar, with the band later joining him for the last chorus and the closing of the song.
