Black Buddafly is a German R&B duo composed of the twin sisters Amina (blonde hair, full name Aminata Schmahl) and Jazz (brown hair, full name Safietou Schmahl). They were born in 1983 to a German mother and a Senegalese father; their family also included an older sibling, Sophie, who was a member of the group until 2006 and a younger sister.

[edit] Career
Black Buddafly was surrounded by music since they were children. Their mother sang and their father was a semi professional jazz musician. When they were younger, they were in their church choir and they were also in a number of school musicals. In junior high school they sang in local studios and toured with gospel ensembles. Then known as "Choyce", they signed a deal with BMG Germany.
While touring in 2004, the group changed their name to Black Buddafly. Around that time they met and impressed Russell Simmons, and he signed them to his label RSMG. In early 2005 the group finally started to work on their debut album. "Rock-A-Bye" was their first single. Their second single "Bad Girl", which features rapper Fabolous will be on the soundtrack for the movie Waist Deep. Black Buddafly is now a duo with only the twins Amina & Jazz, because Sophie moved back to Germany to give birth. Sophie gave birth to a baby boy named Zion Omar. She plans on doing the mother duty and making a return to the music scene.
After two singles that didn't have much of a buzz in the pop/mainstream (but with a decent airplay at urban stations), the sisters still plan on releasing their first album, which have been recorded already. A few songs have leaked on the internet, some even leaked by the sisters themselves on their official MySpace webpage. Their label continues to push their release date.
The sisters are currently involved in the shooting of the film "Players School". To learn more about this movie please visit www.playersschoolmovie.com.
The former Russell Simmons Music Group duo Black Buddafly has newly signed with MBK Entertainment (J Records), a multi-diversified entertainment company based in New York, USA that manages Alicia Keys and other singers.[1]
