Black 7984, Food Black 2, or C.I. 27755, is a brown-to-black synthetic diazo dye. It usually comes as a tetrasodium salt.

When used as a food dye, it has E number E152. It is also used in cosmetics.

Its use is discontinued in USA and EU since 1984. It is currently delisted and not used anymore both in European Union and USA. It is also not permitted in Australia and Japan.

It appears to cause allergic or intolerance reactions, particularly amongst those with an aspirin intolerance. It is a histamine liberator, and may worsen the symptoms of asthma. It is one of the colourants that the Hyperactive Children's Support Group recommends be eliminated from the diet of children.
