Black & White Jacksons is an American indie-rock quartet that formed in late fall of 2006. The group has been performing regularly in the Washington, D.C. area since April, 2007.
Guitarist Tim George and drummer Zach O, who met at American University, had been experimenting with writing and recording together since 2002 in the hopes of incorporating their various musical ideas into a multi-instrument project. However, the lack of other devoted musicians and their over-ambitious plans prevented the project from coming to fruition.
In 2006, Zach met bassist/guitarist Lucas Oswalt, who began practicing with Zach and George. The three discovered that they meshed perfectly, and they agreed to focus on writing stripped-down but forceful guitar-driven rock songs. After trying out two or three vocalists, they discovered vocalist Michael Medlock (formerly of the D.C. band The Sentiment). Upon Medlock's joining the band, the group transformed the previous half-a-dozen compositions written exclusively for instruments into songs.
The band has performed at various local venues including Rock and Roll Hotel, The Hosiery, Velvet Lounge, Solly's, 6th & I Synagogue, The Party Pit, Artomatic 2008, WMUC Radio, Asylum and DC9. The band recently released their long-awaited, self-titled EP to rave reviews.
