[edit] Chinese "White House" replica

Hi Bkc2006. I am familiar with both the White House and the Huang Qiaoling's model of it. I have been in the White House many times, and teach history of architecture and decorative arts. The Chinese "White House" is quite a feat, and it is a very sincere compliment, but unfortunately it is not accurate. I find his building impressive and moving,a nd interesting that his fgovrnment allows it. I do not intend to demean the spirit of his project, though it has been criticised as egotistical. But Mr. Huang's project is best described as "fanciful interpretation." And, I would say he gets it as good as many American movies do, they are famous for having everyting in the wrong places. Which is strange because between books, and Library of Congress public doman photos, measured floorplan drawings, White House Historical Association publications, etc, anyone, with the money and attention to detail could get the building absolutely correct. Furnishing would be anohtter thing as even reproductions could cost in the hundreds of millions.

It does however merit an article. The representation of the Oval Office is placed in the central residence portion where the Blue Room should be. In fact the "Oval Office" is not even oval, it has straight walls on he sides, Please see:

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://img.timeinc.net/time/asia/covers/1101020923/photoessay/1.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.time.com/time/asia/covers/1101020923/photoessay/index.html&h=297&w=450&sz=28&hl=en&sig2=xpMrjma4ejPvFO6o1F7mkw&start=4&um=1&tbnid=TgtOmFzv5Xy6AM:&tbnh=84&tbnw=127&ei=HsMSRobqDJ2uhATTtoy3CA&prev=/images%3Fq%3DChinese%2BWhite%2BHouse%2Breplica%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26client%3Dsafari%26rls%3Den%26sa%3DN The White House has no "Baroque sofa". The styles in the White House are: Federal, French Empire, Louis XVI, American Empire, Duncan Phyphe, Hepplewhite, Sheraton, Jacobean Revival, Queen Anne Revival, Herter Brothers, Belter, and Renaissance evival, and Rococo Revival. Your use of the word "immaculate" is fairly loose as the rug does not look like any of the rugs in the White House. For one it isn't oval, it is rounded on the ends with striaght sides. It is vaguely similar to President Clinton's but not at all like the one presently in use. the drapery is unlike anything that has hung in the White House. The lamps are mass-produced and have no corellation with any lighting in the real house. I am also concerend about the image, it does not qualify as "fair use."

An external shot here:

this shows that the balustrade across the top and the Ionic columns supporting he portico are wrong. The Chinese model uses about 40 percent of the numbr of balusters in the actual building. CApitol3 21:16, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
