Bjurbeck

Bjurbeck is a family name, mainly found in Norway, Sweden, and possibly in the U.S. Bjurbeck means beaver-brook, as the word Bjur is old-fashion Scandinavian for beaver. People with this name are often descendants from people living by rivers or brooks with beavers around it.

The English equivalent for Bjurbeck is the more known Beverly.

The name is rather rare. Only 15 people in Norway had it as their surname in 2007. In Sweden the Bjurbecks are about 155 people. Thus the name is protected from random people to go by it as their sur or middle name without having specific relations to a place with that name or people with it, according to Norwegian name laws. This rule applies for family names with less than 200 "owners".

Most of the Bjurbeck's in Norway are inter-related, having it's origins from the areas surrounding Oslo and Akershus. You will find 5 Bjurbeck's in Oslo and 5 in Ringsaker. The rest is living in various places in Norway.
