Talk:BitThief

Although the article says bitthief is GPL I can't seem to find the source anywhere, not even in the official site. Is it really GPL? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aflag (talk • contribs) 00:33, 14 November 2007
- No. Under version 0.1.6, there was a one-line shell script used to launch the program; and that script was under the GPL; but nothing else. --Spoon! (talk) 05:54, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Spyware
Someone added that BitThief is spyware. I however doubt it would really classify as such since it is mentioned on the programs website that it will send some information back to the creators. Spyware is usually software which does this without notifying the user.

- According to BitThief Spies on their Users, the article linked to from the article, the spying behavior was not disclosed until after that story broke that exposed it. So at some point it used to be spyware. I don't know if it should still be classified as spyware. --Spoon! (talk) 05:54, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
