The Bishop of Salisbury is the Ordinary of the Church of England Diocese of Salisbury in the Province of Canterbury.
The diocese covers much of the Counties of Wiltshire and Dorset. The see is in the City of Salisbury where the seat is located at the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The Diocese of Sherborne, created in 705 was the origin of the present diocese. The see was removed successively to Salisbury (New Sarum) then Sarum (Old Sarum) under the rulings of the Council of London, and finally back to Salisbury in 1227 under King Henry III. The current bishop is the Right Reverend David Staffurth Stancliffe, the 77th Lord Bishop of Salisbury, who was consecrated at Westminster Abbey on November 30, 1993, and enthroned in Salisbury Cathedral on December 9, 1993 and who signs David Sarum.
