[edit] Restructuring & Improvement

I have improved the article by restructering the contents to make it more readable.I have also removed a lot of informal tones and stuck with the NPOV. Also added new contents about Academics, Festivals. There were no references to anything. I have added a few. Please add references in the future. Moved the List of Notable BITS Alumni to a new article. Additions/Changes are welcome in that article.

Also, please add some images(in the right places).

Expand a bit on BITS_GOA & BITS_DUBAI. In future, we can move these to separate articles.

[edit] Essay?

Please Avoid writing essays like: "OASIS indeed is a once in a lifetime experience that no one even remotely connected with it once, would even dream of missing ever again. In fact the Passion is so much that the OASIS 2006 Alumni edition is scheduled on October 28 this year at New York. For a BITSian, OASIS indeed is much more than an isolated area of vegetation in a desert."

[edit] Admission procedure

I restructured this content. My comments are as follows, in case someone is interested:

  • Artical was written assuming Indian reader (with significant use of "board", "PCM"), so I tried to make it general and understandable to outsider as well.
  • While old admission procedure is important to note, let current admission procedure take precedence.

Apart from that I just changed sentences/tone a bit to more formal. If someone can normalise the spelling of 'normalise/normalisation' etc., that would be good! Ashish G 01:41, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] GA comments

  • Lead section is too small. These need to be summarized in the lead section - When was the insti started? Who started? Year? Who runs the college now? What is the distinction of the college? What courses do the college run?
  • Avoid one sentence paras. For eg: the entire "Brief history" section can be clubbed under one para.
  • Why did the founder set up the 'intermediate school'? what was the motto? what was the first batch size? what were the initial courses? any famous teacher/incident in the pre-WW II era?
  • "...it was converted it into the Birla Engineering College with degree programmes in electrical and mechanical engineering..." - reference required
  • what prompted the conversion to engg college?
  • "..In 1964, the Birla Colleges of Arts, Commerce, Engineering, Pharmacy and Science ..." - so it means that apart from Birla college of Engineering or Birla Engg college, there were other colleges. If so, please provide the history of all of them
  • What were the reasons behind the merger of the colleges?
  • "....BITS Pilani received support from the Ford Foundation and benefited from an alliance with the MIT...." what support did it receive from Ford Foundation? When did it receive the support (year)? When was an alliance with MIT struck? what benefits did BITS get?
  • "BITS Pilani started to expand in India and abroad since 2000...." What prompted these expansions
  • "Acceptance rate in BITS is very low (Selectivity - < 2.6% in 2006) making it one the toughest schools in India and the world to get admission into...." provide reference
  • "They have opted out of the rankings since 2005." - why did they opt out?
  • "General Reputation: BITS Pilani is generally believed to be the institute of choice for toppers of the school leaving examinations in India. Every year the top students from around 20+ educational boards including the CBSE and ICSE usually join the Institute." - POV statement. remove this sentence.
  • Alliances with Universities - provide references
  • Suggestion to split article into BITS Pilani, BITS Pilani-Goa campus etc., —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.178.57.242 (talk) 03:00, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

I went thru the remaining article and it was just a summary of the BITS prospectus. This article needs extensive work and references and cannot be deemed as GA material. Please refer Massachusetts Institute of Technology for an example of GA level work and IIT Kharagpur for FA level work. Kalyan 16:22, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
