Births, Marriages and Deaths

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Since 1837 all births, marriages and deaths in England and Wales have been registered at a Register Office in the region where the event took place. A copy of these registration entries are sent quarterly to the General Register Office (GRO). The indexes to these major life events form an extremely useful resource for family historians who are tracing their family's tree.

UKBMD is a web site that allows researchers world wide to find all the web sites that offer online access to these birth, marriage and death indexes. Information is also provided on the United Kingdom's GRO website.
