Bird Internet routing daemon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bird is an open source implementation of a TCP/IP routing daemon for Unix like systems. It was developed as a school project at the Faculty of Maths and Physics, Charles University, Prague, with major contributions from Martin Mares, Pavel Machek and Ondrej Filip.
It supports both IPv4 and IPv6, multiple routing tables, and a BGP, RIP and OSPF routing protocols, as well as statically defined routes.
It is an interesting design, very different in approach from the better known routing daemons, GNU Zebra and Quagga.
Bird continues to receive sporadic development, with support for OSPF IPv6 routing the present focus of development.
Bird is distributed under the GNU General Public License.
