[edit] Chennai

Hi! You recently deleted the term "Madrasis" from Chennai. Is this really derogatory? I was under the impression that it was neutral, and any negative emotion associated with it was purely in the tone (and the identity of the speaker). I've seen a few pre-1997 BBC news reports which referred quite neutrally to "Madrasis". -- Brhaspati (talkcontribs) 01:30, 2005 Mar 22 (UTC)

OK, I didn't read your comment very well. I am an adopted Chennaiite, and there are other Chennaiites I know. None of us liked to be called a Madrasi. It is indeed the intonation and the geography of the speaker, but I think it is best to leave that term out of Wikipedia. No Chennaiite I know would like to be called by that term. Binand

If there is more you want to discuss on this, please email me at binand AT gmail DOT com. I am yet to figure out the intricacies of wikipedia talk :) Binand

Oh, that's OK. Looks like you've got the system figured out! :-) I'll delete "Madrasi" from the table in the article then. -- Brhaspati (talkcontribs) 05:30, 2005 Mar 23 (UTC)

I googled for madrasi and saw three articles Shashi Tharoor Kamat Manoj

While the first two say all s.indians are madrasis, the last one says differently! which is correct?

It was because I moved Anand (Movie) to Anand (movie) and Anand (Town) to Anand (town). It means "skip redirect" so that the links point to the latter rather than the former. Xezbeth 07:17, Mar 25, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Konkan Railway.

Thats because the new edit, effectively, had removed the reference to the underlying page. If you would like to make that change, please move the underlying page or place a redirect so that the page is not lost.

[edit] Good job

Your doing a very good job on adding the licence plate info. Keep it up. Nichalp 18:02, Mar 30, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Indian Railways

We need to check whether IR uses the same terminology to refer to both the Igatpuri section and the Vaitarna section. At Igatpuri, they come to a complete stop, then the loco is decoupled, the line is switched to the other voltage and the new loco comes in. When there is no train coming in, the line is kept unelectrified. Vaitarna is a flying shunt from one voltage to another. Are both these practices referred to under the same name? -- Brhaspati (talkcontribs) 17:03, 2005 Apr 2 (UTC)

What I meant was that Igatpuri is special because it's the only place on IR where the same line can be powered by both AC and DC (not because it changes locos). In other words, there seem to be two different solutions to handling the AC/DC switch. One is to have a section of catenary that accommodates *both* voltages, and the other is to have it accommodate *neither*. My question is are *both* these practices covered under the same title of "neutral zone"? -- Brhaspati (talkcontribs) 17:31, 2005 Apr 2 (UTC)

I have replaced the clean up tag as per the comment on Talk:Indian Railways. I think you are doing a terrific job of adding content. Regards --AYArktos 22:35, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Indian Railways

The Indian Railways is the current INCOTW and your vote helped select it. Let's all now make it up to featured status.  =Nichalp (Talk)= 19:42, Jun 5, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Please, behave

I don't know what's your frame of reference on porn or how you define vandalism or a porn star, but definitely believe that Silk Smitha, the queen of South Indian soft porn industry qualifies as a porn star, while my addition of her entry to the category of Indian Porn Stars doesn't qualify as vandalism. She may not be as pornographic as Shakeela, but on Indian standards she's been refered to pornographic on more than a few occassions.

WP policy says that we should assume good intentions if not proven otherwise, and I am hurt to find that your rude comment (by my definition, at least) that "by no stretch of imagination she's a porn star" do not comply with WP behavioral policies.

You may be more experienced at this, but you have no right to claim my good faith (which is more factual than your subjective comment, since The Hindu seems to agree with me)as "vandalism".

Check the following:

  • "Any good-faith effort to improve the encyclopedia, even if misguided or ill-considered, is not vandalism." (from Wikipedia:Vandalism)
  • "In allowing anyone to edit, we must assume that most people who work on the project are trying to help it, not hurt it. If this weren't true, a project like Wikipedia would be doomed from the beginning." (from Wikipedia:Assume good faith)
  • " Civility is a rule for the conduct of edits, comments, and talk page discussions on all Wikipedias. Whereas incivility is roughly defined as personally targeted behavior that causes an atmosphere of greater conflict and stress, our rule of civility states plainly that people must act with civility toward one another." (from Wikipedia:Civility)
    • Petty examples that contribute to an uncivil environment (from Wikipedia:Civility):
      • Rudeness
      • Judgmental tone in edit summaries ("fixed sloppy spelling," "snipped rambling crap")
      • Belittling contributors because of their language skills or word choice
      • Ill-considered accusations of impropriety of one kind or another
      • Starting a comment with: "Not to make this personal, but..."
      • Calling someone a liar, or accusing him/her of slander or libel. Even if true, such remarks tend to aggravate rather than resolve a dispute.
  • "Wikipedia articles are supposed to represent all views (more at NPOV), instead of supporting one over another, even if you believe something strongly." (from Wikipedia:Etiquette)

I am endorsing your viewpoint, and not starting an edit war, but I felt that it is my duty as a part of this community to remind you of the behavioral policies. - Aditya Kabir 16:07, 10 October 2006 (UTC) - talk page

Thanks, you made my day. And, if you are interested, it can still be discussed if we can put her into the category of porn stars. - Aditya Kabir 16:29, 10 October 2006 (UTC) - talk page
