Binali Yıldırım (b. 1955, Erzincan) is the Minister of Transport of Turkey and a Member of Parliament for Istanbul of the ruling AKP.

As transport minister he has had to deal with a number of issues including:

  • The Istanbul-Ankara fast train project, which he sponsored but which collapsed after the tragic derailment of a train on one of the first journeys. Calls for his resignation followed this incident. He did not resign.
  • Questions as to how his 24-year-old son Erkan was able to obtain credit to buy a ship from a company Santour, which then signed a deal to lease boats to the state-owned shipping company controlled by Yıldırım's ministry. [1]

He graduated from Shipbuilding and Naval Sciences Faculty at Istanbul Technical University. He served as the general director of the Istanbul Sea Buses (İDO) when the current Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was Istanbul mayor. He was one of the founders of the AK Party. He is married with three children.
