User talk:Billbennett

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome to Wikipedia.

If you're the real Bill Bennett, you might consider sending me an email to start to clarify the situation. In any case, welcome. I will try to make no assumptions for the moment.

It's been an interesting introduction so far I'm sure you'll agree, see Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Bill Bennett (DJ) if you have not already done so. I hope you'll get involved with other articles and discussions whatever happens to this one.

I think it's a fascinating project. The quality of our information is not perfect, but it's surprisingly good, and leads many of us to question, just what are the sources of higher quality information, and how good really are their claims to this quality? Obviously, many of us have decided Wikipedia has a valid and exciting role. Consider becoming part of that.

And there are the cynics. We'll always have those, and they have a valid role too. But I think it's far more exciting to be a contributor, personally! And surprisingly easy. Many primary school children have made good and useful contributions. Anyone who can matriculate to university can certainly contribute. It's not a good way to become a megastar, megastars and wannabees tend to be a bit of a pest here actually, but it's a good way to do something small and useful IMO, and a good way to learn, too.

You can sign your name on talk pages by using " ~~~ " for your username and " ~~~~ " for your username and a timestamp. We normally do this on discussion pages as a courtesy, but not in articles.

Please feel free to drop me a question on my talk page if there's anything you think I can help with. Andrewa 20:29, 4 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Nominating for Deletion

Hi there! I stumbled across a page that you attempted to nominate for deletion back on September 1, James Martin (DJ). To get something into the deletion queue, there are additional steps you must take. The {{subst:afd}} is only the first part, there are two additional ones. Use the {{subst:afd2|pg=PageName|text=Reason why it should be deleted}} and then add it to the daily log appropriate for that date. You nominated it on 9/1, but the 9/1 log shows no record of it. Please review [link] for instructions on how to do it in the future, otherwise your nomination will not receive the attention it deserves. Finally, don't forget to vote! The nomination is usually considered a de facto vote, but it never hurts to put in your explicit vote so consensus is clear. I added the entry to the current log (9/7) so no more work is required this time. Best regards, and welcome to Wikipedia! - CHAIRBOY () 16:47, 7 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Ben Coates (Radio Personality)

This article has been nominated for deletion (or has already been deleted). Don't be discouraged! Many of us have had articles deleted, especially early in our wikicareers. Deletion is not a reflection on your editing but simply the application of our standard rules, particularly WP:NOTABILITY (and WP:BIO for persons, WP:WEB for websites, WP:CORP for companies, WP:MUSIC for bands, and so forth.) Looking forward to your future contributions, Herostratus 22:33, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Article problem

A tag has been placed on William George Bennett requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

(And more specifically, you don't get to write articles about yourself.) jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 20:53, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Sourceradio.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Sourceradio.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 20:39, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Sourceradio.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Sourceradio.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. After Midnight 0001 02:47, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
