[edit] Birth Name

I've heard that his birth name is William . Can some one confirm this for me, so we can add this to his page?

Billy is a shortened form of William (as is Will, Bill, etc.,). Not really important. WAVY 10 Fan 12:18, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
It may or may not be a shortened form of William. It could be a nickname for something else. Some people are christened with what would otherwise be a nickname. I've extensively looked for ANYTHING published and all biographies including those on his official site never mention anything other than "Billy Ray" as his name. Until we get a reliable source of information that says his birth name is something else, we need to stick with what has been published so far. --NrDg 13:11, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

I watched the TV show Biography on the Biography Channel that featured Billy Ray Cyrus ""Billy Ray Cyrus Biography". A&E/Biography. 2007-12-20. " where his birth certificate was shown and verified that his name at birth was William Ray Cyrus. --NrDg 16:23, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Singles Chart

Ok, whoever keeps changing the numbers on 2 of the singles, saying that they didn't chart, STOP! The numbers were there until you started changing them. They need to be corrected. I know for a fact that "Deja Blue" and "Trail of Tears" were BOTH Top 5 hits. Thank you.

Hate to tell you, but you're dead wrong. We've gone through this before. I have actual copies of the Billboard country charts from 1990 to 1999, and none of them list Deja Blue or Trail of tears as chart entries, much less Top 5 hits. Billy's chart history at Allmusic AND at Billboard don't even list the songs, and LP Discography lists the songs as non-charting singles. Check your facts before adding any more erroneous information to this page. Ten Pound Hammer(Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsReview?) 02:17, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
Well, I have my facts, and I know they are right. These were both Top 5 singles, and they did in fact chart. I don't want to start a feud or controversy, but Billy Ray is my favorite singer, and I know all about him. Thanks!
Please sign your entries with 4 tildes. If you have the facts, you need to create a reference to them. It must be possible for others to verify what your reference says. Without any proof, we really can't accept the data.--NrDg 02:24, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
Please refrain from adding the info again. Please review WP:RS and WP:V for more info on why we can't include your info at this time. --Malevious Userpage •Talk Page• Contributions 02:26, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
Im just asking a question, (not trying to be rude), but why did it say the numbers for position of the singles awhile back? I can understand now that they didn't chart, but about a month ago, it said they were Top 5 hits..
Because some other goof was putting erroneous info up too. Ten Pound Hammer(Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsReview?) 02:57, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Clean up required

This article has been tagged since the start of the year may this please get sorted. Also I think there is a lot of speculation of what is truth in this article. I've seen at least 5 people complain about this article. Also about his former home why is it only one site that backs it up? Other sources need to be found pronto.

[edit] Cyrus's former home

"The family resided on a 500-acre farm in Spring Hill, outside of Nashville, Tennessee".

Ok, I highly doubt that Cyrus lived on a 500 acre farm because from what I've read of his biography it in no way suggests he has ever been in the money. Also a 500 acre site could probably fit five towns into it. There is no sufficent evidence to back this up so therefore this leaves me with no alternative but too delete this refereance.

This is backed up with an authoritative cite. Lack of belief does not override a cited fact. Sufficient evidence backs this up so deletion reversed.

I've checked the link it has no mention of them living on a farm? Like someone would say back home in Tennessee I lived on a 500- acre farm.

There needs to be more evidence than the source cited for god sake it looks as if a child has wrote it come on that is most certianly not a source. 71.32.188.84 19:08, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

That particular cite is used as a basis for a lot of his biographical information. It may be poorly written in your opinion but it is a trusted source by Wiki rules. --NrDg 16:37, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia must obviously have low rules then! Not only is his biography poorly written it's an awful site which contains a lot of trivial information. Should we include all the other information that this reference gives us like his fav food? 71.32.188.84 05:57, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Sorry this refernce has to be deleted the article in question hardly admits to the truth. I know this is a site were people can edit regularly however this is just utter vandalism. I am shocked and dissapointed that such low standards apply to this site. Wikipedia needs to get a grip on reality! It is impossible to own a 500 cre peice of land would'nt that be about 50 miles or more.

500 acres is about a 4600' x 4600' chunk of land. ~.8 sq miles, less than a section. This is not a lot of land. Your lack of belief does not a fact make. --NrDg 22:16, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

How many miles do you think a city such as New York, New York's city centre is I can assure you it's not as much as 500 miles which is about 150 acres. Imagine this outside a huge city it is not possible. I belive they lived on a farm yes fair do's and they may have had about 50 acres say. But what I'm talking about living space Cyrus did not live on all his 50 acres did he?

Rference deleted!

You have no concept of size. 500 acres is 0.8 Square miles and is about an 8x10 block chunk of a normal grid type city. It is a small farm. People Magazine July 2, 2007 edition also backs the cite. --NrDg 01:37, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Ok if you really want to make a point then why the hell don't you make an account. Prima Donna man.

The Vatican city is 384 acres America is a big place but there's no possible way 500 acres could be owned independantly. I have a theory though that Cyrus lived on a farm and then maybe had feilds behind his land whis equalled 500 acres. --Doggywhatsits 05:39, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Figure $2000/acre for farmland near Nashville makes 500 acres worth $1,000,000. Could be higher, or lower depending on location. Look up land sales in Tennessee if you wish. Easily affordable for successfully entertainers. Lots of individuals own property this size or larger. --NrDg 14:29, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Side notes

"Cyrus and Tritt's rivalry was noted by Tupac Shakur, who saw that the feud elevated the fame of both persons, even the perceived one-hit wonder Cyrus. Shakur was inspired by this to turn on his friend Biggie Smalls---for commercial, not personal success." Seriously, is there ANY substancial evidence that this is true? Sounds pretty ridiculous to me.

  • I was about to say, that this appeared to by major breach of NPOV; considering that this doesnt appear on any other sources (try googling it). 220.237.56.163 14:29, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] SemiProtection against?

I've seen many edits by IP users that are well mostly/sometimes doing vandalism so we should have SemiProtection so it's not so much vandalism on this page. --Kanonkas 19:15, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Agreed. WAVY 10 19:00, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Why?

I don't get it?!? I worked my butt off trying to make the "singles" and "album" chart BETTER, and then as soon as I get it done, it gets deleted and changed back to the plain, ugly, boring white colors. I think it gives it a lot more info the way I had it. Thanks!! --ElboMisery1993.

Suggest you describe what you want to do first in this discussion page. It is obvious that some editors like the page the way it is and are resisting change. Given that, you will need to get people to agree with what you want to do or it will be reverted. Wikipedia tries to work on a consensus basis. I understand how frustrating it can be to do a lot of work and have it deleted. Also suggest that you register. There is so much vandalism by editors identified by their IP address that it is hard to be taken seriously if you don't have a registered identity. Also suggest using the "Show Preview" button instead of "Save Page" to check intermediate changes. Filling the history log with large amounts of partial edits tends to annoy people. Good luck. --NrDg 20:43, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
I sort of noticed people don't like what I did. So should I tell what I would like to do? Thanks for luck, Im going to need it. --ElboMisery1993

[edit] Changing the Album/Single chart

I would like to change and update the charts with a colored back-ground, and putting (#) in front of the numbers. If I think I want to change something, I will talk it out on here. ----ElboMisery1993

Suggest you check out WP:CHARTS for some background on standard practices before making any major changes. --NrDg 16:32, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Also if you don't like the WP:CHARTS style guide, the best place to discuss what you would like to see is in the discussion page for WP:CHARTS. People will continue to revert things that don't conform to the style guide. It is really hard to go against it. --NrDg 02:58, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The Other Side 8 times platinum?

List_of_best-selling_albums_in_the_United_States shows The Other Side went 8 times platinum. Here it is blank. Is the other wrong? Why doesn't it show here? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.176.151.107 (talk) 19:22, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

It's not shown here because its not true, The Other Side hasn't been certified anything. --Caldorwards4 19:30, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
I, too, thought the The Other Side was certified, but I didn't think 8X Platinum. But I was almost certain it had gone at least 1X Platinum. --ElboMisery1993 22:54, 2 October 2 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Next Single?

Does anybody know what the next single will be from Home At Last? I've heard alot from "Flying By", "The Beginning", and even "Brown Eyed Girl". I don't have any idea what would be. --ElboMisery1993 22:51 2 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Billy Ray Cyrus discography article re-creation

I would like to split out the discography section of this article into a separate article again. Almost all the revisions to this article over the last three months have been in the discography section and the edits related to the rest of the article are getting lost in the noise of the updates and reverts that are continually occurring. Before doing anything others might consider rash, I'd like to see if there are any comments, concerns, rabid dislike of the idea, etc. I know that there is already an article with that name redirected back to here by User:TenPoundHammer May 29, 2007 that was created October 4, 2006. I am not familiar with the reasons for the fold back into here, I assume they were good ones. I just think that in terms of the recent activity here that we should revisit the decision. --NrDg 05:19, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

I requested semi-protect on this page and it is now protected for a while. This might give us a breather to see what happens and possibly make a split out unnecessary for a while. Depends on whether or not our prolific constantly reverted friendly anonymous editor from Saint Louis chooses to log in or not to make his non-consensus changes. --NrDg 16:57, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Album Chart Re-Construction Suggestion

Copied to Talk:Billy Ray Cyrus discography please continue discussion there.--NrDg 03:24, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

I would like to suggest that we re-construct Billy Ray's album chart, so that the RIAA Certification isn't shown, so it can't or won't cause conflict. Also, I would like to make its own Discography page which was created earlier in the year, and was deleted. ElboMisery1993 01:15, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Why do you wish the RIAA certification stuff to go away? It is authoritative and is based on the most accurate data available. It does measure stuff differently than the Nielsen_SoundScan retail sales figures, but it included more sales outlets than soundscan. I think is is good data and should be incorporated with any conflicts explained, if necessary.--NrDg 03:24, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Discography page is made Billy Ray Cyrus discography. --Caldorwards4 02:00, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. I think the discography page can be justified as notable and I would like to see the main Billy Ray Cyrus page concentrate on his bio. --NrDg 03:24, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Filmography Update

I think it's time for someone to add Bait Shop (2008), the Hannah Montana Movie (2008), and now the movie, Flying By which will be out in 2009 to the Filmography section. 76.236.153.65 (talk) 16:45, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
